China didn't even begin quarantining until a month after the Chinese doctor blew the whistle that something was wrong. So by that time it had probably spread over most of the world. China is in about every country working on their Belt and Road Initiative. Can't contain something that has already spread before you even have the means to detect it. Also, it's impossible to contain a contagion that is infectious while asymptomatic, unless you have the means to test everyone continuously., which we didn't and don't.

They still should have shut the borders down immediately. No in no out. That is what they do for birds during an outbreak. Nothing into the country we may not have had any get it. Cause all the ill from out of the country came in during the 2 week nobody from China.

No, they should have just shut down the borders to all out of the country travel. No in No Out of the US from anywhere for at least 30 days and then watched and reevaluate after 30 days. Like we do with livestock.

If I can quarantine new animals for 30 days on my small farm then they and lockdown if signs of illness pop up, then the US government should be expected to do the same.

Another quote like that: "Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."

People are dumb and panicky. Look at the stores. The majority of people say they are not panicking and in reality, they are panicking. I have always made sure to have the basics and make sure I have at least 3 months of the basics so I don't have to worry.
I am by no means rich, but I had a grandfather who told me if a staple goes on sale stock up. He lived through the Great Depression and I am the only one in my family who learned this lesson.

SChools shutting down for a 3 week minimum here in Indiana. Kids are stoked! Good thing we live in the country, a 3 week staycation isn't so daunting. Poor city kids, though... We're all healthy.. hope this flattens the curve! wash wash wash !! Soap is your BFF!

I homeschool. KY shut down the schools for the next month. My kids are finished this year March 31st.
Wait till the kids that go to public, private, and parochial schools have to make up all those missed days. Kids are expected to do their school learning while at home. That will not happen unless the adults in their lives step up and say do the school work.

Brown bottle Lysol makes 9-15 gallons and costs less than $5.
Buy baby wipes and put beach and or Lysol in and you have wipes.
Think, adapt, over come
Our public schools (Maryland) are closed for the next two weeks. I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to clean and paint the inside of my coop using pizza bribed teenagers ... Can't find bleach ANYWHERE!

just wait a wk and they will get more in

this is where being a hoarder helps, I have 6 gallons I bought on sale months ago... if you were near N Illinois I would give you one

Yeah I have a friend who mentioned a couple of weeks ago that she was having trouble finding masks for pollen season, as she has terrible allergies. Guess she gets to suffer through her allergies then...

And I can't imagine how impossible this is to deal with for someone who is living paycheck to paycheck. Worse yet, even if they aren't sick and aren't having to worry about quarantine, they're already seeing reduced hours and reduced pay because the economy is stalling with people not going out shopping or going to eat or traveling, etc.
Tell your friend to buy or make bandannas. They work well in a pinch for pollen ... especially if you dampen them, first.

Yup - that's what figure. I actually have two gallons here, but I really don't want to use it up on the coop when I need it here at home. We keep it on hand for laundry - 4H and tennis bleach-whites ... and who in the world thought it would be a good idea to get me all white towels for Christmas? Someone in my family needs to be smacked!
