Grocery shopping today. Funny the parking lot was nearly empty- it's usually packed. But inside, the store was full - maybe they got "beamed up." Toilet paper was GONE but, I stocked up earlier. I'm always stocked up because I never know what new or different food will bring on the "trots."

20 new cases in Ireland today.
the parking lots are packed here and the shelves are all empty, We cannot get any bread.. Everyone’s gone mad.

Before going out, pour 2 1/4 cups of water, and 1/4 cup of bleach in a cake pan (10% bleach solution). Now tear off a paper towel, and lay it flat in the solution, then another on top of the first one, then another. When you have a sufficient quantity for that day's outing, take them out of the bleach water, and gently wring them out a little. Now, put them in a zip lock bag, and don't forget to take them with you. You've just made sanitizing wipes.
Here's another good DIY wipes idea:

I heard an interesting take on the TP hoarding issues, last night. The theory is that, as humans, we have a need to feel in control of our situation ... any situation. Corona virus (or any other disease outbreak) is something we have pretty much no control over, so we go overboard with "preparations." TP is something we fear being without. It's also available pretty cheaply in large super-sized packages. Those huge packages make a big impact by taking up an impressive amount of space. Seeing that wall of white paper helps us feel "in control" when we really have none at all. Makes sense to me!

I don't think it is just panic. I think this is what it looks like when most of America doesn't have even a 2 day complete supply of their household needs. When suddenly the whole population is faced with the need to isolate for a week or longer even normal purchases can overwhelm a store. Combine that with delayed shipments, deliberate withholding of stock, closed manufacturing, no imports, media hype, etc. And it becomes a perfect storm.

The high end grocery near us was stripped bare this week. Shipments of even fresh foods are delayed and everyone is trying to get in their shopping NOW before they have to stay home. They were out of everything from bread and potatoes to leafy greens. The normal grocery was picked over but seemed well stocked on the same day.

Well I for one don't keep an emergency stock of food as I mostly eat fresh foods. If there's snow in the forecast I stock up enough to get through that period, plus a couple extra days.

Good news for me is once the weather warms up I'll be mostly covered as far as veggies go, and that'll hold up through fall, so that greatly reduces my reliance on grocery stores.
I've been watching how things have gone the last few weeks (since we're pretty much ground zero). 3 weekends ago stores were emptied of staples like onions, beans, rice, pasta, bread, and chicken. By a week later stuff was starting to get restocked. Earlier this week, I had no issue getting anything other than watercress which isn't a common item anyhow - beans, pasta and rice were about 80% restocked. Going out for groceries again today and I don't anticipate having any issue getting anything other than rubbing alcohol still (shakes fist).

Only reason I'm mentioning all this is... DON'T PANIC. There's still food and supplies available once stores have time to restock.

I think I read the same article last night. I'd still rather stock up on soap, in this case.
