What kind of purifier did you get?
I looked and can't find my particular ones listed anymore (or even on Amazon) but they were similar to these and came with HEPA filters-

I didn't have time to wait for shipping because we were having a hard time breathing, so had to get what I could find locally. Some for the bedrooms, and one for the living room/kitchen. Within a day of turning them on (and leaving them on) we could breathe better. After a couple of days we only needed to run the bedroom ones at night while sleeping.
Can't say they are the most quiet things, but no different than a typical fan.

The fires lasted for several weeks, and these were a huge help since I have asthma.

Thanks! And thanks for your kind words. Sorry that you had to deal with fires and asthma :( We might need to get some air purifiers because we live in an old house and even with the windows closed there's ash and dust everywhere.

The blood red skies, ash coming down like snow, and smoky air is really rough. I've been checking on the chickens and chicks all day. I noticed yesterday that there's a hawk cruising over the area where they free range (which, luckily, is a small orchard, so plenty of cover), so I've been keeping my eye on them anyway. One of the many lovely/positive things about the pandemic is being home way more than usual, spending time outdoors, and hanging with the chickens. Chicken therapy is real lol!

Thanks. That one made me nervous because of how close it was. At least when I lived in OR they typically were never closer than 20 or 30 miles.

Old houses...yeah. When it's windy outside, it's windy inside!
Have you considered using the plastic film that you place over the whole window frame in the winter? I used them when I lived in the frigid northeast in an old house and they work to cut the "breeze".

If you are planning to get/order any air purifiers I would suggest doing so now! I had gone back to the store a few days after I got mine, because one was a little squeaky and I wanted to exchange it, but not only were they gone but all the purifiers were gone.
And my store is one of the largest ones around with a huge home goods section, so I knew they were sold out all over the area!

And look up replacement filters and how easy they are to find and/or costs ahead of time. Some models/brands have ridiculously expensive replacement filters.

Will be keeping you, and everyone dealing with the fires, in my thoughts. :hugs

Thank you! Just FYI: I went directly to the Holmes website and found the same one you recommended. When I put it in my cart, it was discounted to $29 (Walmart lists it at $63!) with free shipping over $50. It seems like the air filters are pretty easy to find.

And now they are saying it's out of stock
