I wonder if he needs a buddy. He really got along great with our pet pig but unfortunately Hammy passed away.

Is that supposed to be Hammy in your avatar? So cute and joyful!

When our last lab was old and spending too much time alone, we got him a puppy. Another lab mix. We tried to pick out a nice mellow one from the rescue. Unfortunately, once we got her home we realized she was sick. ...really sick. $2000 and doggy intensive care later she was recovered and HIGH energy. She bedeviled the final days of our poor older dog.

Not saying that would be someone else's experience but we wouldn't do that again.

I’ve actually been wanting to adopt a young dog or puppy from a shelter but was kinda hoping it’d be cheap or free under these circumstances. But no such thing so far over here.

You could try fostering (and then adopt it if you love it), I know a lot of shelters are hoping folks can foster for the time being.

I'm already at max limit for county so that's a no go for me.

Sounds fishy if the owner wouldn't allow an autopsy. The dog was 17... I'm sure it died from old age!

Yeah. Most dogs I know of any size pass away around 14. One dog I knew lived to be 16 and that was shocking to me. 17 is ancient. That dog was kept in quarantine for weeks with no symptoms and cleared to be released as virus free. It could have passed away from just about anything TBH.

Yes, my avatar is meant to be Hammy. It really broke my heart when he passed.

I will definitely look into fostering, that way it’s not permanent yet and it won’t cost me anything besides food unless I decide to keep the dog. I shall ask my husband since he’s the only one that goes out now.

The dog did NOT die of corona, but DID tested positive for it. It was also declared virus free before passing away at 17 years old. That's two dogs in the WHOLE of china. Many thousands of dogs have been tested including dogs owned by humans that tested positive.

It's important to be clear so people don't do something dumb like put a strain on shelters by abandoning their dogs.

"The new case comes after a 17-year-old Pomeranian, which had tested “weak positive” during repeated tests for the virus, died two days after it was released from quarantine virus-free. The AFCD said the dog’s owner wasn’t willing to allow an autopsy to determine the cause of death."

"There is currently no evidence that pets can be a source of the virus or that they can get sick from it."

"Both the Paris-based World Organisation for Animal Health and the U.S.’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have said there is no evidence that companion animals such as cats and dogs can spread the virus. "
Thank you Chocolate, I was about to jump on that too.

@ChickenLeg
1st dog has died of coronavirus and a 2nd one has now been tested positive. 0.0 its rare but can happen

Dogs do indeed get coronavirus, like parvo, but that is not the same as Covid-19.
Coronavirus is a FAMILY of different viruses. Like The word Canine includes hundreds of different breeds of dogs, but collectively they are called canines. A cocker spaniel is not a pug is not a greyhound. They are different.
Food. Food means a variety of items considered edible. There's human food. Dog food. Cat food. Horse feed, Chicken feed....you get the point.
Different coronaviruses do different things in different species of animals or humans. They are not all the same.
Covid-19 is the illness in humans that this particular strain of coronavirus is currently causing.
And yes, this strain was found on a dog but the dog did not get sick. Just like if parvo from a dog gets on you (contact) you will not get it, but could pass it to another dog on your shoe.

ETA: Moral- if you are confirmed positive with Covid-19, don't be kissing on the family pet then let the pet interact with other humans.

I agree. Sanitize and wash... The masks don't even work either so people NEED to stop buying them and let medical personnel have them!
I think if I have a mask on, it will help me not touch my face. And I do think masks help drastically decrease the aerosolized droplets that a person breathes in. Plus, if you have a mask on, I bet people will avoid you.

Sorry you lost a family member in the service. Some do make the ultimate sacrifice.
The best thing ever though was I went to a museum and they had an American flag made of dog tags from those who never came back from overseas... My husband's brothers name was on a tag there! It travels too so what a site to see when we were there when it was there. We never even knew it existed. It's all made of dog tags ♥️

This was the flag... It was made by a veteran who is disabled and in a wheelchair. He is amazing!
