I agree, to a point. Leaving out Tom Bombadil was unfortunate, but didn't interfere with the story. I guess that the battle scenes were too long for me, not being a teenaged male?!?
DH and DS had no problems with the battle scenes being long. Is it a guy thing? Or a Jackson thing? I'm overthinking it...

I would say it's a "you" thing :hugs (everybody's different.) I had no problem with the battle scenes, pacing and everything seemed spot on to me so it never even occurred to me that they were long.

I thought the same until I have 3 and they crow all day and all night :lau  or at least it seems like it 😂 but they seriously crow in the middle of the night like midnight, 2, 3, 4am, constantly and a ton throughout the day too :th

I think three is just too many for our flock though so sadly I think I’m going to have to cull at least one of them. Starting with the “problem bird” I think is doing it 😂🙈🙈 Then if there is still crowing at night, I will know it wasn’t him and will cull his half brother, the pretty one

I think my little banty can stay since he sounds like a squeaky toy compared to my big huge standard boys :lau I actually used to think he was loud LOL

Anyway, sorry for rambling on here. :lau 🙈 I love the country sounds and I used to love my boys’ crowing when they first started but one of them likes to hear himself talk and gets the other boys into trouble :lau 🙈 he gets them started and causes crow offs lol
I think the try to out crow each other.

I don't know abut statistical information, but the rescue I got Crazy Dog from runs to Georgia on a regular basis for strays. They're one of three that I know of, personally. There are lots of strays here in MD, too, but most are either pittie/pittie mixes or itty-bitties. I wanted a bigger dog and I have a "thing" for furry coats and plumy tails - so we went hunting ...
That all we have here is pit mix and chi mix running the south side. Oh out here in the country we have some. GSD running the orchards.

Yeah, I think so too. I have read if they can hear another rooster or whatever they will crow but the night crowing thing is quite strange to me. This morning though they crowed all morning starting at like quarter to 5 then like all afternoon too. I actually let them out this after because I think they are just bored. They have crowed like once or twice but overall much better.

If we go out to the coop at night they will crow. I think they are protecting the flock.

Hmm interesting! Mine do it even if no one is out there though. I had heard that sometimes they do it if they hear or see something like a predator but they do it every single night so I don’t think that is it unless we have something harassing them but my other boy doesn’t crow at night so idk.

Better go and yourself tested Mr sourland.
Get yourself tested even if you don’t think it’s COVID, because it could turn out to be. I got myself tested when an allergic reaction turned into some sort of 3 day illness where I had covid like symptoms. I thought that the symptoms were related to my allergic reaction, but in case they were unrelated, I went and got myself tested. It’s really very quick and my results were in (negative) a couple days later. It’s absolutely worth it to make sure.

I take it you've read the books?
Wonders if it's more the shoot 'em up video game generation that liked the looooong special effects battle scenes....so could be a generational thing.

Yep, the movies stunk......all gratuitous special effects.
Have read the Hobbit and LOTR multiple times back in the day.
Tried to reread before movies came out and could not focus.
Read all the books myself back in my teenage years late '80s. I didn't mind the movies when they came out.
Ever watch the old animated/cartoon movie 'The Hobbit'? I'm thinking back being a kid reading the books and then watching it but if I remember right it was very good.

I just found out I'll have new neighbors to start out the new year. And they will soon be discovering that they have a rooster for a neighbor. :lau

Actually, we're losing good neighbors of a couple decades. Their house had been on the market for 4-6 months with a few inquiries but no serious takers that I'd known about until they wrote to me a couple days ago to say they'd finally closed on escrow and decamped to family in Idaho.

We never saw any moving trucks going in or out. Are we spectacularly inattentive??????? Or did they sell it as a turnkey property???????

I'll get some flowers to put on the doorstep tomorrow. In another time I'd bake something and show up in person but I doubt either would be much welcomed in the era of Covid. I'd leave some eggs as a peace offering as well if the *$^#*% hens would get in the nesting boxes and get busy....

Happy New Year and New Beginnings to ALL!
