I’ve edited it as you can see so it doesn’t go against BYC rules or anything but I wanted to share this that I’ve just been sent. To be honest, that’s pretty accurate over here at the minute 😒

We had major flooding here on the Pigg river. Like 40 feet above normal. Entire trees washed away. Luckily we don't build structures near the river except a boat launch , stairs and a small bridge. Two out of three washed away.
What part of VA are you in?
Appalachia area and it sounds like you got what we got.
My creek is normally only ankle to mid-calf deep so 12' was crazy high. I'm not from this area but know some people who've been here their whole lives (50 to 60 years) and they said they had never seen anything like it.
Many people here like to build their barns or houses close to the tiny "trickle" creeks.
Those little trickles turned into raging rivers and swept buildings completely away. 2 farms over from mine lost their entire cattle barn. Typical one story...40 x 80-ish... nothing but a clean block foundation now. A second barn, maybe 50 feet away, had high water marks on it. I think like 10 or more people died.

What's really concerning is just within the last 16 months, not including this past flood, our area had already had a 25 year and a 50 year flood. I'm guessing this last one was a 200 year flood? Or signs of what is to come from a pissed off Ma Nature.

Speaking of names...like most I just assumed the Spanish flu I've been hearing about lately (In regards to comparing to this outbreak) had come from Mexico.
Um, no.
Kansas. USA.

Don't know if this part is true, but I also heard it was coined Spanish flu to shift the blame at the time. *SMH*

We are the only species on earth that talks, yet are so careless with our ability to verbally communicate.

I don't know where the Spanish Flu originated but what I've read is that the Spanish government was the only one at the time that didn't keep their newspapers from publishing stories about it when it was already a worldwide phenomenon. I guess this comes under the no good deed goes unpunished rubric.

Now we are better educated and try to be more specific and less blame-y about these things. ...and Molpet indicates why. How does it help anyone for someone to victimize someone who had sweet nothing to do with a virus migrating from an animal to a human? NO ONE wanted that. NO ONE caused that. NO ONE is responsible for that. ...only for how we behave once we know there's jeopardy.
