Text in purple is factual; text in red is opinion.

Although you have a right to your own body, your choice to willfully be sick ends where another’s right to be healthy begins. For that reason, people who “opt out” of vaccines should be opted out of society.

Freedom doesn’t mean “I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.” You can’t drive without a seatbelt and you can’t ride a motorcycle without a helmet. When we choose to live in a society, there are certain obligations—both moral and legal—to which we are bound. You cannot inflict harm or infringe on the rights and liberties of those around you.

Your moral and legal obligations to the safety of others can even curtail combinations of your rights. Even though consuming alcohol and driving are both legal activities, they are not legal when performed together. Nearly 11,000 people die every year because people choose to exercise their “rights” inappropriately.

The exact same reasoning applies to vaccination.

There is no moral difference between a drunk driver and a willfully unvaccinated person.

I disagree with the author's first opinion; I agree with the last two. The substance of what I posted is factual, though. (Yes, even though it's an op-ed. Op-eds have facts; facts are kind of hard to get away from, actually.)
My fact is I have a right to decide what is put in my body. My body is my domain. You do you and I will decide what is right for me.

No argument from me. I agree with you.

My uncle feels the same way. If my uncle didn't drive, no one would have a problem with it, but he does. He insists on going out in his car after he has put liquor into his body and, by making that choice, he puts others at risk. Naturally, other people in his community don't like that. They often say to him, "Bubba, you should think about quitting the demon drink, granny is afraid to go out for a walk while you're driving all over the road." It's like they see things differently or something.

Sigh .... community. So difficult. We all just want to do what WE want to do. I feel ya.

Thank you for your sensible answer. What I have a problem with is those who are comfortable with getting the vaccine, telling others (who may be uncomfortable with the vaccine) it is their social duty to also get the vaccine.

That's all I wanted to point out.
Thank YOU. It's always nice to be accused of being sensible! 😆

Well call the cops on him. That’s what I would do. If he is driving drunk.

My fictitious uncle is an analogy to other ways in which people exercise their free choice and, by doing so, create risk of harm for others. With the choice to not vax and yet still go out and mingle amongst people who are vulnerable to illness, I would not be so harsh as to call the cops.

I think that is far too tyrannical, h2oratt, but you do you.

Pretty weird stuff. Had a truck driver that comes in every other day that has had covid months ago mention he gets a bad taste in his mouth sometimes but his wife says his breath doesn't smell. He just ran into someone else that said same thing. I asked DW if our DD that had covid said anything like that she said no but woman she works with that had covid has always had good smelling air fresheners in her car says sometimes all she can smell in her car is like stale doritos.
Well DW just asked our DD about it, said she every once in awhile smells something dead rotten but no one else does. She thought she was just going nuts lol.
Wonder what the long term effects of this covid , and vaccine will end up being.
