The 1918 influenza pandemic was worse, targeted younger people, and in places that actually practiced isolation, was less severe.
My parents were young adults during that time, and never once spoke about it! People managed to blank it out of their histories, and out of many history books too.

Well, yes. They managed to blank it out because governments around the world --who were a little preoccupied with a world war and didn't want info about it getting out -- forbad publishers to print anything about it.

People may have been less panicked about it but then they also might have been able to be more effective at preventing the spread if they had any idea what was coming at them.

I guess you could call that a case of ignorance is bliss. They may have achieved the bliss part but at a very high price.

Actually yes, we have imagined this exact thing happening. There even was a office of pandemic response in the white house until 2018 . The scientific community has been warning us for years. I keep hearing that, how could we have known? when the obvious question is could we have not known? I remember when we were worried about the bird flu and the scientist were saying that once it goes from animal to human things will get bad fast and that was 14 years ago. My concern now is people are still not taking it seriously, the Gov of Florida just exempted church services from the stay at home order that was way too late in implementation to begin with.

ACK! I know many holy men are having their mass in parking lots, YouTube, or offering confession at the front entrance of the church. DeSantis may be doing what he does because that rule won't be obeyed anyway. Holy man holds the power to make this more safe.

I'm not sure about Floridans taking this seriously. However my parents did not. My sister did. Finally someone knocked some sense into Dad to stop getting haircuts, (mother on oxygen), dog grooming, the weekly therapy ( you can afford a break after 3 years, His neighbor taught him how to shop online or pick up groceries . OMG They are friggen in their 80's. I'm sure many seniors did the same thing . And chat with the neighbor " (she looks " fine! or "everyone but me}

So IMO!!! Maybe the governor feels that people need to be led into serious slowly. And seniors and Hi risk but still go to church. They are probably the highest risk but really really set in their ways and will go to church no matter what. I think the holy person maybe has to start with holding his masses out side . and guide his worshipers to be safe. Many also think "oh not me"

25 confirmed cases in my county

Today: 25,590 confirmed cases
537 deaths
130 confirmed cases in my county.

We started social distancing weeks ago and basically total state lockdown 12 days ago and still this is happening.

Because, like everywhere else, 'lockdown' wasn't done soon enough, or completely enough, and it's that three week lag time between being infected and usually getting sick enough to have a chance to be tested.
