The problem IMO is the media's hyping it up like crazy, and people latch onto it and join in the frenzy. Obviously when an entire nursing home is on lock down, or the NBA is suspending games the rest of the season, that's big juicy news. My mother doesn't even live in the US but she's been sending me news links for my area daily, as she's convinced I'm on the verge of dying because I haven't yet locked myself in an underground bunker with the chickens and a 2 year supply of canned beans.

Meanwhile thousands of people die each year from the flu...

Best toilet paper "ad" I've gotten so far is a company promising a free roll of toilet paper if you act now to reserve a slot for pressure washing.

Except there's no rubbing alcohol available either. And many sources have said that homemade sanitizer is not the same as the actual thing.

I don't trust sanitizers anyhow. Handwashing is far better, gets germs, dirt, grime, grease all at the same time.

Yes, washing your hands definitely is your best option BUT Hand sanitizers are good if you are out and there are no sinks or running water around. I don't know about you, but I'm not running into a public restroom just to wash my hands or wait until I get home to wash my hands. Squirting some sanitizer on is the easiest and most convenient when you're on the go. Home made sanitizer is just as good, Isopropyl alcohol is a great disinfectant and is in many hand sanitizers you would buy in a store.

... then I remember: Oh ya, I have a bidet, and also lots of TP from a costco run a few months ago... so I'm solid!

BTW, I'm a HUGE convert and fan of bidets! I have gifted 10 for friends & family that are now also converts! They are super fast / easy install, and work GREAT! This isn't the exact one I got, but it's almost exactly the same and has almost 9,000 reviews!!!

Bidets are the best!! I've been scoffed at a bit for mine, and I always tell people it's like dicovering showering after trying to get clean with kleenex my whole life - haha... no comparison! Got mine at samsclub. It heats the water and has a dryer. Our septic system also approves. 👍

As for the covid-19, we're at greater risk economically than other ways. Yes, covid-19 is serious. So is every other kind of viral pneumonia that goes around, and they do. And shutting down the economy would only create 1000 more challenges to getting treatment for those who need it. If no one is making supplies, there wouldn't be anything to treat them with either. We need people to be able to work so they can afford necessities. It comes full circle and affects us all.

I also saw a youtube video about an exercise that happened about 2 months before the outbreak in China. It was organized by the Bill Gates Foundation and Johns Hopkins. The exercise consisted of simulating an outbreak of... drum roll... coronavirus?! I try to keep a balanced view and this has me pondering this whole thing. Referenced video.

I have tried not to panic about this and carry on as normal apart from trying to not touch trolley handles, public toilet door handles, escalator rails et then washing my hands thoroughly when getting home, there really isnt much more we can do. We meet very few people living out in the country so as long as I restrict my shopping trip to once a week and then at lunch time which is quiet is all I can do. At the moment I see no one being particularly concerned. We cant buy hand sanitizer or wipes but the shops are not running out of dried foods and toilet paper yet in my area of France. However, we have just had to travel to London to see family and have been using public transport and visiting various places in London but life is going on as normal, it is only asian people using face masks, lets just hope they let us back into France in a couple of weeks time.

This is a joke they spread in the Netherlands about a department /province here (province Noord Brabant) where they have the most infestations and infected hospitals. It says:
Emergency aid started in Brabant. The first sausage rolls (speciality of the Brabanters) are dropped in isolated province.

For us apparently it depends on where we shop. No toilet paper at walmart but target had some. Very few cleaning supplies, ironically everything cheap was gone and just a couple bottles of the more expensive stuff were left. I don't ordinarily purchase cleaners as I make my own but I noticed when I walked by. There's nothing antibacterial left in the soap aisle either, thankfully we use regular old soap to wash up and hand sanitizer isn't an item we use.

There are confirmed cases here in the valley, but I haven't done anything different. We don't eat out often, I wash my hands when I get home from being in public as a rule already, and we generally dislike crowds so we don't go out.

Contrary to what someone stated earlier, I haven't heard that covid19 has a higher mortality rate than the flu. Quite the opposite actually.
