Today we walked past a man in a kilt at the grocery store and D asked me in a bit of a haze; "Is today Ireland?". XD

And so we went to mc donalds and got shamrock shakes and some fries.
Luckily, I picked up my corned beef brisket last week, so we've got most of our traditional meal ready. We're having biscuits instead of soda-bread and brussels sprouts instead of cabbage, but hey, it all works. My kids call them baby cabbages, anyway ... right before they feed them to the dogs! :smack

In good news - the grocery my partner works at (not the one pictured, the one he works at is even emptier) is giving everyone a $2/hr raise for a month. They've also established specialized hours starting at 7:30AM. The first half hour of the day is for ONLY employees to shop because things are being bought out so fast that employees can't buy food after their shifts. Then the first hour every day is for the elderly only. They're being pushed to expand that to "immune compromised" or make a separate hour for it. That way at-risk people can get their shopping in while the store is at its cleanest. Then they're closing early every night so they can deep clean the whole store every day.

Some of the employees are having a lot of mental health issues working in such a high-risk environment but they're getting by. My partner is doing a good job keeping people cheerful but there's only so much you can do when you have to touch everything every person in the store touches every day during a pandemic.

While we were at the grocery the mood was grim and you could feel it. Lots of people in masks or scarves with faces covered, standing far apart. Surprisingly empty for the time of day, too.

We tidied up the garage a lot today, deep cleaning dirty shelves and organizing tools. There's a lot to be done still but we're all so emotionally drained.

@MROO, at least brussels and cabbages are the same family.

There are a LOT more cases than we know, but it's not because doctors and hospitals aren't testing. According to a family member who manages an outpatient office in a local hospital, that's how the coronavirus initially presents. In most people, that's as far as it goes and they recover. The tests are hard to come by, right now, so they try to use them on the extremely ill and to identify cases in areas where they haven't seen it, yet. Like the flu, there's not a whole lot doctors can do beyond treating symptoms and resting - and that's what the self-quarantine and shutdowns are supposed to do.
Personally, I'm okay with that! You couldn't pay me enough to get me to set foot in a hospital or urgent care facility, right now. I wouldn't even accept a house call ... who knows what the doctor's been exposed to?
It would be great if all the people can do without the hospital. With mild symptoms like a flew best place to be is at home with a friend or a relative who cares.
But if you get pneumonia and need oxygen to breath the best place to be is the hospital. If you are already infected with the corona virus you don't have to be afraid of the medical staff anymore.

And yes. Medics are the first in line to get sick if unprotected.

@BDutch, you guys are doing it smart. Herd immunity approach instead of chickens-with-their-heads-cut-off approach. I didn't read his speech, but IMO the best approach is to sharpen the curve instead of flatten it. Tell the vulnerable and scared to isolate themselves and let everyone else go about with their business. Since 80% of people aren't affected let it burn through them as quickly as possible so they will quickly develop herd immunity to protect the others when they come out of isolation.
