Getting political might not be the best avenue to travel down.
Ahh, but there are many who DO care, especially when supermarkets didn't look like something sucked everything out of them for something even though H1N1 spread so rapidly. Just because someone has one, does not allow them to marginalize the other. Its not a one up contest, just baffling how one completely shuts down world travel and the other did not, though both spread so virulently. What changed in a decade? For your last comment: people are reacting like it's Armageddon because they are foolish and likely spend too much time getting their information from unreliable sources. Just a thought. And to someone who is caught up in the "thralls" of the coronavirus and fighting to breathe, I doubt very seriously whether they care that some people think H1N1 was worse.
No, its opinion. I didn't even know folks called it Wuhan flu till Tuesday, and that was from FB. Plus, it does nothing to help calm matters when people already have enough on their plate now. This is simply the reality of the situation.
Find a use of Wuhan or Chinese or Wu Flu that's on another source.
Because it can lead to sometimes heated political discussions when used derisively, same as saying the fear mongering is "left wing". It serves no purpose to call something out politcally in that fashion, only angers and divides people.Call me stupid, but why is referring to "right wing media" political?
It came from fear and initially lack of a common name, from folks of both political leanings. People heard it came from Wuhan before being labeled Neo Corvid-19. I never saw Wuhan flu on any major media outlet, only word of mouth.I'm certainly not advocating the use of a term intended to ascribe blame for a biological phenomenon. Someone asked what it meant when someone else used the term. I simply tried to explain what it meant and where it had come from.
For me.....
It doesn't matter where it came from. It is here. It can be deadly. There is no vaccine. It is evolving.
If social distancing, self quarantine, and staying home if possible can slow this disease while people are working feverishly to figure it was out I am all for it. A little distance from others is NOT deadly or even going to make anyone sick.
Why in tarnation is anyone not doing those things?
Only if you let it. I think being overly sensitive to semantics is a bit childish. But that’s probably because I’m just a stupid old woman.Because it can lead to sometimes heated political discussions when used derisively, same as saying the fear mongering is "left wing". It serves no purpose to call something out politcally in that fashion, only angers and divides people.
