Hey can I get you guys to chime in on something?
I don’t have any of the paper n95 type masks, and I don’t have full confidence in the home made cloth ones, but I do have a proper respirator mask, (covers lower half of face), that I wear almost daily....I’m just a little shy to go out wearing that in public!
So my question is this: would it still be considered “cultural appropriation” at this time if I wrapped up in a scarf sort of thing to cover my mask and preserve my dignity?
Never was? I mean, it's a scarf. They exist everywhere. I always think it makes someone look like a babushka, personally. I even wear scarves wrapped over my head all the time in winter - it's warm and I don't like hats. Just don't wrap it to look like something very-very specific - like a turban - and nobody cares. If you do the full headscarf like I do you may get some people who assume you're muslim - it's happened all of once to me. I just tell them I'm not muslim, I'm just cold, and assumptions are bad.
