many city folk have second homes, they left and came out to more "rural" areas where I am located.
Flooded here, upstate NY. When this started our grocery stores were full of them. Looked like fourth of July weekend.
I have mixed emotions on this. I would rather they stayed away, shelter where they live. But they own their homes up here and pay taxes on them, and it sucks down there, exactly what I would be doing in their situation. Just don't like the thought that we have very few cases and they are coming from the epicenter possibly spreading it.
Really ticked a couple weeks ago when I saw a house down the road from us that hasn't been occupied in forever, owned by a oriental family. Saw a vehicle there with Jersey plates shortly after this started
We live on a back road out in the boonies.
Shortly after I saw their vehicle DW mentioned she sees them daily walking up and down the road, elderly couple , I'm sure glad they are up here and not down there.

We have lots of clover and other weird little weeds haha they’re so tiny. It’s almost easier to let them grow some then pick them 😂 I did pumpkins one year and they took over the whole yard practically haha the cucumbers last year somewhat did too. I’ve never grown corn but that’s a good idea. But don’t need to buy more seeds 😂

If you make cardboard collars to put around your plants there will be a lot less weeds right up next to the plant. Just a square 12"x12" piece of cardboard or 4 layers of newspaper with a circle cut in the middle for your plants stem and a channel cut so you can slide it around the plant works wonders.

You want to start them indoors. Starting outdoors, by the time the plants are big enough to fruit well, you're probably right up against when they'll need to come out.
This is my concern about starting them so late

Might need to just buy tomatoes this year haha

I had huge nice full grown peppers I overwintered but I killed them :hit

I use red solo cups and Jiffy seed starting soil, inside under grow lights. A sunny window will work too. I cover the pots with saran wrap until the little seeds sprout. Don't forget drain holes.

Oh my! I am zone 4-5 and we plant just after mothers day. Sooner can be done if you use the water walls.
Good idea!! I got seed trays but always plant way too many 😂🙈

I think we are technically 6b actually, mixed it up earlier, but tbh I do think we are probably 7 by now haha we rarely get that cold anymore.

So how's the rest of Eastern LI doing? I was born in Riverhead and semi-raised in Center Moriches.
I see. So you know the island. The county has about 17,000 confirmed cases. Peconic Bay Hospital in Riverhead is not full to capacity, yet, nor Eastern Long Island on the North Fork, but quite a few cases on the North Fork in Southold, and Greenport. I believe 6-8 senior residents at Peconic Landing have passed on from it. The South Fork is getting more cases and increasing ICU space. We had a Go Fund Me to buy more ventilators for the hospital. Hospitals up island are having a more difficult time right now. Stony Brook University Hospital with ~624 beds, was ordered to double in size, while all the others were told to increase by 50%.
My local hospital only has 24 beds left before they have to use additional space. The Governor has asked retired doctors and nurses to come on board to give the regular employees more time to rest. He has had them recertified in their specialties. Also the medical residents have the option to graduate now and help out rather than waiting for May graduation. Not sure if the same was applied to nursing students. Its all hands on deck. Nassau County is only about 2,000 more confirmed cases more than Suffolk Country.

I just heard that travel to the US from Europe has been suspended except from Great Britain. This also includes all trade.
What have you experienced, and are you experiencing shortages in your area? Have you been sick, or do you have friends or family that are?
Italy has closed commerce except for pharmacies and food stores.
Hate corona, like many others. Luckily no one is sick so far and we still have someone who's job is still concidered essential so weshe are still getting money. However, things have been crazy here since schools closed down. No break from the twin first graders, to mqny assignments and things to figure out. Yesterday, the boys had so much work that we started at 8:30 am, and didn't finish until 7:00 pm. It caused me headaches, neck aches, and frustation, literally. And i'm not the only one. Everybody that was helping with the boys work yesterday (including the boys) was incredibly frustrated by all the work.
