I went back and looked again and that soil does look pretty bad or at least that weird stuff in the middle especially. Looks like concrete or DE or something almost? Don’t think it’s supposed to be clumps like that or white. I was looking at the outside edges where it looked a little more okay/like dirt (but still not great) and also to be fair couldn’t see the picture that well before

It aint any worse then my soil.. And I grow all kinds of stuff. One thing I have learned it's hard plowing and tiling and doesn't grow heirloom beans well. But commercial beans do great. Last year I had enough to fill a 5gallon bucket adding all my harvests up for the year . Like I said my area was agriculture so I don't know how much the farmer improved the soil.

I do not think it is bad if you hold the service outside and maintain your 6 feet. I would be the one who fights them-right into jail! Because there is not really any rule for anyone who maintains their 6 feet whether on a sidewalk or in a parking lot. How many can they arrest if they throw you in the back of their car -and maintain 6 feet? Define gathering or group. It does not include anyone with 6 feet of space around them. I can see following the rules/reasoning , but I can't see Police ticketing people for being 6 feet apart. And there are no laws written for these guidelines anyway.

I agree give me liberty or give me death. And I mean it.. Although I will maintain my 6ft distance for the sake of others, Especially elderly.

I've worked with far worse. You need some organic matter in the soil and I saw that you have a load of compost coming. That's good, but I'd still be inclined to mulch it. Use some organic matter for that too, like chopped up leaves, well dried grass clippings (in moderation) things like that. I've improved soils with things like shredded paper, leaves, grass clippings, goat or alpaca manure (not high in nitrogen which will burn plants) aged cow or horse manure, old straw, and the like. And Rainey's post was excellent.

It's not ok yet but it will be.

Well, now we're like all curious...

Things just got real interesting here. Our Cochin is broody she's being a mega B to everyone so we are going to have to move her from the nesting box because she's in everyone's favorite one.

Anyone have any advice on how to move this crank? I'm going to either put her in the new double nesting box or put her on a milk crate with shavings.

I've moved broody hens into a large dog crate before. I do it at night and then leave the crate up about the same level as the nesting spot the hen chose (if possible) then closed the door. She's still where she feels comfortable and with the door closed she's kinda stuck.
Obviously you'll need to keep a strong eye on her the first couple of days to make sure it doesn't break her cycle, but a large crate allows room for food/water, leg stretching, and potty breaks.
Also easier to move her to where you want her to be when you pop the live chicks under her. Which at that point I open the door and set the crate on the ground in a separate area
I've made just for mom and the kids.
I've used rabbit cages or wire crates with extra small wire around it for chick safety, but I've found the plastic sided crates make for a better hidey hole. So much so I usually will cover part of a wire cage with a feed sack or material/tarp to create the hidey hole for mom.

I'm having crying spells from sheltering in place - I live alone. Too bad I got over having agoraphobia for the best years of my life., now that I need it.

I'm racing towards 73,if I were fortunate enough to find a male friend at this age, he probably would be unable to do anything. major time. Women can enjoy - - - forever. This is making me regret all the men I "fixed" in my younger years, who were so grateful they ran off and demonstrated with other women. I have a right to be crabby, a POX on them.

I wonder if the male-heavy skew is due to something physical or more of an attitude characteristic. I honestly don't mean that as a criticism of men. I just notice that the fellas in my family tend to "tough it out" longer than the women. If we encourage our brothers, dads, sons, etc., to contact their doctors earlier, it may help their survival rate. Again, its's not meant as criticism of menfolk. It's just an observation offering some hope for keeping y'all around longer!

The thing is a beast . It is so strong. But if it hits a rock, the power transfers up and you need to let go or it will twist your arm. In The "clean" ground the hole goes real quick and nice pretty timely. I just can't believe the power this thing has!
