I've never had a turducken... I'm fine with just the turkey. There's more room for stuffing that way, and stuffing is likely my favorite part of a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. If it's not that, then it's probably the mashed potatoes... and then the turkey itself. Whichever it is, it's slathered with gravy or cranberry sauce.
Kind of funny how my favorite parts of the holiday dinner are the high-carb ones....

I think that if I made a turducken, I'd go past the chicken in the middle... I'd put in a little partridge. Then a woodcock (they are so cute, bobbing along the road, but I have never eaten one), then a small quail, and then a chickadee....
Extravagance. It's my specialty. Just... don't try to annoy me after the meal -- I get really tired, and thus rather snippy. Sure do enjoy cooking, though.

These are just some general observations from my local..ish area relating to chickens and so on.

We were able to find White Broad Breast turkeys at the Tractor Supply in Plymouth NH, they also had a few Bantams, but no other birds.

We purchased six turkeys . We had only two last year, but I want to give our neighbors each a fresh turkey this year. Two for them and three for our family and one for my sister in law.

The Tractor Supply store in Littleton NH only had Khaki Campbell ducks yesterday, no chickens.
The Agway in North Haverhill NH had no birds what so ever on hand. Their computer inventory for Cornish X was -16..so no joy.

I looked on line, Cackle had nothing for Cornish X.
I found some Cornish X for May 25 shipment at Hoover's Hatchery.

At least in this area, a lot more people are having birds this year to prep for any food shortages.

Our Tractor Supply did run out of feed pellets at the start, when people were hording toilet paper and such, but the supply has been steady up here since then.

My layers are putting out about a dozen eggs a day, we give quite a few to neighbors and co workers.

I am considered essential, but my wife is out as she works at the local high school...out for the rest of the school year as of Thursday.

So, as long as we can feed our flock and pay bills we will be fine, we are all in good health, tho I am 62, I/we have not bought into the panic.

Oh...we did buy nine bantams three weeks ago, but they are pretty much just for my daughter {16} to care for as pets and visual enjoyment. The roosters will probably be given away as soon as we find out how many we have.

All my favorite parts too!!!! LOVE mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, the whole nine yards!!! Especially good if you take a bite of everything all at once!! The turkey, potatoes, a bite of cranberry sauce. I must say though, I think the green bean casserole is my favorite part. and the potatoes are good too but only good potatoes and not super dry ones haha
Also, I loveeeeee sweet potatoes too or half regular half sweet mashed. we usually just have regular mashed though.

And the there's the pies! Apple and pumpkin or pecan! I made a chocolate pecan pie a couple years ago... it was really good....
Then for Christmas there's the cookies... a couple days before the holiday itself, I like to make a Buche de Noel. And kolachi. Poppyseed kolachi. That stuff is really darned good... I'd like to try it with the walnut filling too, though....

Mine kept standing in their water dish yesterday LOL their little feet got all wet

Totally honest and owning hundreds of Polish in my 12 years, I do put heat or a heat lamp for them less than 30 degrees. From their poof and beard always seems to be wet at bedtime. And with the heat lamp they know where to stand to get warm. I have a 16x10 foot coop and I always judge the need for heat by how frozen their water bucket is in the morning. IMO, Polish and silkies were not meant to be kept in under 30 degree weather for prolonged times . IMO. Looks like I care more than they. But I'm also a lot more intelligent than they are and it's my duty to keep them from harm , give them cool water and shade in the summer, and not have them in teens to-30 degree cold when I can give them heat, especially when the temp is like that for 24 hours. I can do this and I'm sure people have kept them in colder weather but this is what I do for my chickens as long as I can and know that they are ignorant and my responsibility. to keep them as best as I can do.

I think that one who lives in the north needs to talk to others who live north. They will probably tell you it's okay. And it certainly may be. Maybe you just need to watch your chickens and see if they show signs of being too cold. Probably puffed up and reluctant to move. Or showing signs of frostbite. Sorry this is long but I'm stuck here in my house and have nothing better to do than be long winded.

If you really want a hoot read about Nancy Luce. (First crazy chicken lady) . Search internet. It's really an interesting life in an interesting place. She actually has a grave in the center of town that people visit and leave chicken paraphernalia .

Yessssssss!!!!! The pies are the best part!!! I didn’t used to be a huge pumpkin fan and still am not really but I will eat it. never had pecan tbh. My favorite is apple or those mixed berry ones and I like cherry now too. Didn’t used to be a huge huge fan but it’s super good ha OH! And I love peach pie too but that’s rarely a Thanksgiving thing. Cranberry or blueberry is super good too if mixed with the other berries. OH!!! That reminds me!!! Almost forgot!!! We had a Cran Apple one last year that was sooooo gooooodddddd. So I love that now too

And yes!!!! Christmas cookies are the best!!!!!! Love gingerbread ones lol and those peanut ones with the kisses on them. and those little jelly ones!!!

I don’t know what that other stuff is but it sounds really good!!!!

Yeah, I just have a real shallow little bowl right now but I’m gonna get them a different waterer they can’t stand in or put something in this one. Or maybe I’ll just raise it. That’s a good idea. They seem okay so far though but they need a real waterer anyway so I’ll do this. And yeah, 5 of them do.

I have one that stands in the water all summer and winter. God knows why. It's a pan and I need to change it to something un pan like.

If this is done well, which is doubtful but possible then it will take some pressure of parents and perhaps allow some of them to return to work.

Nahhh, it’s okay!!! I don’t mind long winded!!! I actually found it interesting haha I think that’s sweet you take such good care of them. I’m paranoid to have a heat lamp in my coop though.

I do feel bad for my birds sometimes, like when we got that polar vortex last year, but so far they all seem fine. Other than that, we’ve actually had very mild winters the last few years. Pretty warm and very little snow which is weird. Mine are all standards and seem okay.

Though sometimes they get their wattles or bead/muffs wet in the open bowl but it’s been okay so far. I actually have a heated bowl for them in the winter. Doesn’t heat it much but keeps it from freezing. Their coop is only 4x8 but the new one is double, 8x8 or actually just under. Think it’s like a few inches under 8 on one side but almost.

The ones I was referring to are actually my baby chicks and they are inside atm. Wouldn’t put them out. They are so tiny.

But they will be outside eventually. And these babies are actually Cochin bantams so should be very fluffy and Brabanters too
