Idk. @Kiki got in my head I guess
But it wasn’t really even because of that or cause she’s right or anything. I know I could do it. And I want to eventually. Really. But I also just realized I don’t really want to have to feed 30 or 40 birds or have a coop way up in the middle of nowhere or totally separate flocksit’s a long walk up to where I wanted this coop haha
I honestly might still get some CX or quail or something though because I really do want meat birds and to try it but I don’t really need like 10 extra layers and honestly, oddly, I think I’m far more likely to do the butchering than I am to actually sell any eggs
So I couldn’t really justify adding that many more layers especially when I already added some new birds with these chicks haha
So yeah.
I’m just trying to go to sleep before I order quail immediately because they take up faaaaaaarrrrrrr less room![]()
Okay thank you!! Good to know!! I thought the vaccine was only good for 24 hours? Or is that once it’s mixed??If you are talking about Marek's, there is life after Marek's. For years now I either order vaccinated hatchery day olds or buy the vaccine and do it myself day 1. Then quarantine for 3-4 weeks to let the vaccine build antibodies. Most of mine are vaccinated at this point. I have one 12 year old who has survived this long. And about 6 years ago I had one bird die from Marek's (sent to lab).
I can eat 'em (not off'em, but eat 'em!) but only if I don't know which one is which. So, everything has to packaged by part, not by bird. With a whole bag of drumsticks, no one knows whose was which was what's ... so it works. I haven't eaten any I've raised, yet (not enough space) but I've eaten those I've tended. I know it's not the same, but it's the closest I'll get unless I can move!

That makes sense!! Thanks!! So the vial itself lasts a while? I thought I read somewhere it didn’t. Maybe I’ll get a vial of it so I can hatch again hahaYou mix it. But it's good for an hour after mixed. It comes 1,000 doses but not smaller. And I figure a lower amount they would probably charge the same for.
Four is one of my favorite characters from movies. We also tend to get a little (or a lot) off topic sometimes, this thread being a great example, lol, it was supposed to be about what were all doing in regard to this crisis.
I’ll try to bring it back:
Myself I panicked a bit about not being able to get new chicks this year, my flock is old and I’d planned to transition to a whole new breed. Locally hatched chicks (and rabbits and goats) started disappearing online as soon as they were posted, I was only able to get five of a breed I don’t even want (Whiting True Blues), but that’s fine since they’re so bloody cute!
I also bought my first incubator from amazon, and a box of hatching eggs from someone an hour away (eggs posted online also disappeared quickly!) so now I have these seven fuzz balls:View attachment 2102199
Black is a copper maran, two white are maran (?), the three brown are partridge chantecler and the silver is the lone araucana that hatched. No names yet except this guy:

I’m calling her Four, it’s from a movie but I think the reason is obvious! She also has a cute black eyelash mark, sure hope it’s a girl!
