Brooke and Sid... Sharing some dinner together. Fresh butter crunch lettuce that I grew. They also had a sprig of mint. We are definitely happy we traded the ducks for these bunnies.

The 3 older quail went outside yesterday into their aviary.

Why didn’t you like them? I have 8 right now.

Perhaps my view is a bit skewed as mine were all stupid cockerels......
When my son was 9 he wanted some of those very fuzzy cute chickens. We bought 5 straight run chicks. Four of them turned out to be white silkie cockerels and the 5th was a bantam red cochin cockerel.
Those Silkies at 12 weeks old randomly chose to go full mental. They ganged up on my Japanese blacktailed rooster and nearly killed him.
They were hideous in both appearance and behavior. They got stuck in individual cages until the next bird swap. I had paid $5 each for them and sold them for $3 each.....they went for soup.

Oh....that cochin cockerel grew into a very awesome tiny sweet rooster that was an incredible early warning little dude for my 36 LF hens. His name was Scooter.

Im not sure the sex of mine yet, but I’m not keeping anymore cockerels except 1 lucky one maybe but it won’t be a silkie. I was hoping to keep a maran or another bantam Brahma. It all depends on what hatched.

We are turning this into a double decker coop. My father built it for the kids at his house and they are too old to use it so I’m taking it to the farm. My parents have plans for the area it is taking up already.

"The Adventures of the Quarantined ... Day 62."

Came downstairs this morning to an empty, topless brooder. DD is a late sleeper, so my first thought was "CATS!" Then I saw the lid, sitting neatly on the ground, intact. It's a big guinea pig cage, and the wire top generally pops apart when dropped, so, I rethought my knee-jerk panic. That led me out back to the portable run - not quite a tractor, more like a kennel without a bottom tray (ummm, cuz that's what it IS ... a kennel without a bottom tray!) No biddies.

Back to the house, where I was greeted by a drowsy, black chicken on my living room windowsill ... INSIDE on my living room windowsill.

I've finally discovered the secret to getting a teenage girl out of bed and downstairs ... in SHOES, no less, in 0 seconds, flat. Just yell The Chickens are out" up the stairs, at the top of your lungs. I swear, I have NEVER seen that child move so fast in her life ... even as a toddler!

So, twenty minutes and five Asian Black pullets later, we were desperately trying to unwedge the last little lady from behind and inside an overly-full bookshelf before she broke a wing. We managed, then collapsed on the floor in hysterical laughing as she (the pullet, not DD) settled and sulked in my hands.

It's gonna be a looooooong summer!
Best. Quarantine. Story. Ever. :bow

But yeah, ....how DID they actually get out?? 🤔
Inquiring minds need to know.

Our bloodhound puppy 8 months old just did her first howl!!!!!!! 💓💓💓💖

Every day the coon hound, malamute and Pitsky hold a barkathon howl off! Today the blood hound did some background vocals.

I wish I had been quicker with the video....I missed it dang it.
Awwwww

It looks great!! I put my chicks in the outside pen again today (did yesterday for the first time) and they lol sooooooo tiny in it LOL
This one has 3 in it and you can barely see them. I have 9 other quail (I sold 15) that I am going to grow out and see what they look like. I have 2 that are very interesting color wise.
