I'm not a fan, either, but I think I can attribute that to the fact that my first was a hatchery Silkie. I'm currently looking for a black hen for my outreach program. I figure that somewhere, someone has an older, sweet-natured non-egg-laying hen who could use a retirement home. I'll never go the hatchery Silkie route again - health, temperament and standards definitely suffer!

Mine are from TSC and I do not see anything wrong with them currently. I have not seen anything to concerning yet. I have one that is older about 8 weeks and I named it Chubs, it is a nice and friendly silkie. I am not sure if its a male or female. All I know is that I am obsessed with it.

So our county now has a "directive" instructing people to wear masks - still not an order, so there is no enforcement, penalties, fines, etc. But I'm tired of having to check individual store policies every time before I go, so I finally caved. I read the directive to the letter and started sewing.

I had a vintage Japanese silk kimono I'd been taking apart, so I took some of the fabric that was already edged and did a belly dancer veil inspired mask with a few beads. Fabric is much lighter weight than cotton but has a super tight weave. I can clip the ribbons into my hair so keeping it attached shouldn't be an issue.

I know hubby's going to fuss over having to wear something, so I just cut up old t-shirts into large squares so he can wear those bandana style. Or he can also just wind a scarf around his face, as that meets requirements.

My mom was overjoyed to hear about the directive and said a box of masks is on its way to the house... I told her I'll see if my mother in law needs them since I don't think she has any. :)

Meanwhile, several counties in the state are allowed to proceed to the next phase of lifting restrictions - restaurants can open back up, with a lot of caveats.

Appointment tomorrow to pick up chicks! Hubby is super excited lol.

I saw a lot of people at Lowe’s today, even an employee or two, with masks below their noses or even their mouths or hanging off their faces. 🙄

I think a lot of people are now just putting them on just to meet the requirement without actually “wearing” them, you know?

Because they’re mandatory in that town and technically the whole state.

Although I saw a guy at the gas station the other day go in not wearing one even though there was a sign clearly stating masks were required to enter the building. But I don’t think he spoke English very well so maybe couldn’t read it/didn’t know but still.

Clearly they’re not enforcing it.

I asked my friend in NYC if people were still out without masks (since it's been 3 weeks "enforced" for her) and she said yes, absolutely, and enforcement only happens sometimes. If you're in a nice area and you're polite, then the police will usually just hand you a mask to use. If you're in... a less desirable neighborhood, belligerent, etc., then you might get fined.

At least my county has acknowledged that ordering people to do it won't work, because they know they can't enforce it, so rather than do it that way, their aim is to just get most people to voluntarily comply with the directive.

Yeah, I guess they know they can’t enforce it so don’t try? Thankfully most people were wearing masks properly but not everyone.

You would not believe how many people were not wearing a mask in the grocery store today. There were only 4 people and that includes my husband and myself. Absolutely ridiculous. Last week everyone was wearing them...
I think a lot of people maybe think that it is over or close to being over???

Very few people wearing them last Monday, I think mostly due to the weekend heat wave (which is why I prioritized making a lightweight mask). Will be curious to see if anything changes with the directive, though it's not "live" yet. Though I don't get the point of having a start date on something that's a strong suggestion instead of a requirement.
