Yeah I admit when I first started out and was researching breeds, something like "Cinnamon Queen" sounded so exciting lol, like I was expecting a regal, fiery red bird. Or a "Golden Comet" you'd think would have a long streaming gold tail.

Alas, the names just sound cool.

Like look at how housing developments are named. Vista Heights, Meadowlake, Skyview Estates... is there really a better "sky view" at Skyview or Vista? Is there a lake or meadows in Meadowlake? Or is it all marketing...
Yup - The farm where I briefly boarded my horse is now a massive development called Foxborough Farms ... Haven't seen a fox there since I was 16 ... and we'll just say that THAT was a loooong time ago!

Going to post in a few places....Glad I got my sister home from the nursing home before anything could get started there with the virus. A few nursing homes have it going through. She's in transition now. Only a short time left. Glad I could have her here to spoil her. I'm going to miss that sweet giggle of hers. Prayers that this part can go smoothly for her..she's had it more rough than some having stopped dialysis. 5 weeks yesterday. Keeping her sleepy. This is hard.
Prayers for both you and your sister! How wonderful that you were able to bring her home! My mother's best friend is trapped in a nursing home that has Covid, She's healthy, now, but we all worry that it's just a matter of time before someone slips up and it spreads. Prayers for our "Miss Mary!"

Black sex-links are starting to get labels, too. I currently have 6 started pullets (all for sale in MD, if anyone's interested) that were sold at TSC as "Asian Blacks." They're nice little birds. They're very pretty and are supposed to produce 250 eggs a year ... but they're still black sex-links!
A way to sell more. Most people have backed away from sex links because of their lifespan. Guess I’ll only be buying breeds I know.

Complete change of subject here... (sorry)

Boy, I have one happy roo this morning!

Yesterday I sorted through the hens to decide the target eggs for my new incubator and last night, after dark, I made the switch....so the roo went to bed with only his main lady friend, whom he's been with since the beginning, and woke up with 5 new girls in his harem.
I swear I saw a grin on his beak when I went out this morning to feed and he was doing all his rooster talk to the girls and behaving like he was "all that." He's a very attentive roo when it comes to being sweet and doting but the first sign of something scary and he's like..... I'm outta here girls, Good Luck!
Typical pretty boy.

"Speed kills" my dear!:gig
:lau :gig :lau

I still can’t really sleep properly... keep waking up and not being able to fall back asleep lol

Funny thing was the headache wasn’t even that bad but it didn’t go away with eating and drinking like I thought and was annoying me and yeah. Probably should have just showered or gotten a heat pad or something instead lol

I also am hoping to not have any caffeine today and just kinda “detox” off it/give my body a break since I had so much yesterday but that may not be possible lol
Good luck, and get some rest. I was up half the night with "Sunshine" she's got breathing problems.

I feel like lifespan is definitely an issue with red sexlinks. So many of mine have died from random degeneration after 3 or 4 years, and my hen Honeycomb died due to tumors in her oviduct. They were the only hens in the flock to consistently lay big double yolkers on a daily basis. My black sexlinks on the other hand didn't have double yolkers, but they lived to healthy, ripe ages, far longer than the red sexlinks.

I have two of the red sex links and they are just so friendly, I’m going to be so sad when they pass away. Right now they are two years old. So far one has laid eggs every single day since we got her, she’s only taken about 2 weeks off total. The other stopped laying since winter but is amazingly healthy so I’m not worried at this point.
