Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

@MROO
I hope my gluten free reply didn't come off as dismissive, it wasn't meant to be. A GF thread is a good idea and perhaps something I'll start later this summer when things are a little slower for me...ie: too dang hot to do anything outside.

Right now I'm re-perfecting my recipes.
I was never a real big baker before life was turned upside down, and where I learned to cook and bake GF was in a flatter state. After moving here it never dawned on me that I'd have to change my baking because of altitude. Canning yes, but baking? Didn't think I was that high up.

However after the move my stove, which I brought with me, seemed "broken". It was a nice stove 12 years ago and I thought well, I used it up and time to get a new one (yeah, twist my arm somebody...)
And things were going fine with the new stove (convection...yeah baby!...<insert Tim the Tool Man grunts here>....) until I started trying some harder items again.
So, I joined the BYC bakers thread (Any Home Bakers Here?) and though only a few people understand GF, there are some very knowledgeable bakers over there and they were able to help me through a series of questions and suggestions that led me to figure out altitude might be my problem.

I'm working back through my recipes with the adjustments and so far so good. Brioche is on the list for today or tomorrow and once I get a better handle on things...AND the flour shortage lets up (we GF'ers have been hit extra hard) I'm even going to make a sourdough starter. <more Tim the Tool Man grunts>

Where in Michigan? My grandparents were in Mesick when the only shopping option was a one-room country general store. We would walk there ... and throug hthe reserve to the Manistee. I still have family in Davidson. I remember Sleeping Bear when the gift shop was an old wooden ice-cream shack ... and Traverse City before anyone had even heard of a mall! Chubs off the pier at Frankfort ... and three feet of snow ... for EASTER!
Wow - what a trip down Memory Lane. You just made my morning without even trying! I desperately needed that, today. THANK YOU!:hugs
OMG!! I lived in Traverse City!! Birmingham too. I've got relatives spread all over MI and spent many a summer on Harsens Island on Lake St Clair.

Hey there, Clucky - you're instincts are spot on. It's time to batten down the hatches! The weather wizards are already predicting a huge, rapid drop in temps tonight, complete with dangerous wind gusts and ... gulp ... hail. We're right at the top of the Chesapeake Bay, here, and that nearly always means a tornado down on "The Neck." That's single digit minutes from my place ... but right on top of my brother. As much as I love thunder-boomers, I am NOT looking forward to tonight!
You’re probably sending your storms my way. VA has been bad with 🌪 the past few years. We had one only a mile away and it was so loud like a train coming through the house. It knocked over trees and everything. No one got injured and it just went through farmland thankfully! But the power from it was incredible. I hid in the bathroom with the dogs and cat.

Our day got darker, today. A few "pages" back, I asked for prayers for Myra, the mother of a friend. She lost her battle with Covid. She was 66, with a minor health issue that should have had no bearing on the virus. That makes three for us. I hope that means we're done.
That's awful!

It’s going to be 95 here today and I have a feeling nasty storms are coming. Once it gets hot like this it becomes the perfect weather for tornadoes.

One round just went through here - second front predicted for later this afternoon.

Read an interesting article on line indicating that Covid 19 may actually be a vascular disease with respiratory portion being one of the symptoms. It appears that being on blood thinners may be a positive thing when dealing with this disease.

That would actually make sense. I need to go find that info ...

We had a very heavy rain go through here just a couple of hours ago - a VERY heavy rain. It's all "Sunshine and Roses" outside at the moment, but scheduled to be rough a bit later (about 6-7 onward.) Coupled with @FortCluck 's comment about the storms, yours got me to thinking. If you look at the way weather patterns work on the east coast, we're all in a line. Storms hit VA/WVa right before they jump over the mountains and ht the top of the Chesapeake (me in MD) then move on to you in NJ. My brother spent years in Louisiana, an he noticed that St Louis, MO weather systems skirt him and end up in our neck of the woods about three days later. Between St Louis and the three of us here on BYC, we're our own weather prediction system. That's pretty cool!

I forgot to say thank you for all the brushing/grooming advice. :love

I’ll try all of it. She loves to be stroked under the chin so definitely trying that one!!

I haven’t heard back from the groomer so I guess I gotta call again. Haven’t had time yet today cause I’ve been having quail popping out. :lau

I don't have a high, or even normal metabolism and the first year I lived in the deeper south with oppressive humidity I was sick and nauseous all hot season long. It was awful.
Eventually each summer got a little bit easier, even without AC, bit it's still a struggle. Here I have central AC, thank goodness.

I know, why do I live where it gets hot and humid?? Because being out working in -20F and feet of snow wasn't my cup of tea either. Yeah, I'm finicky like that.
No argument there.... That's the main part of why I hunted for a college where snow was a near zero issue. Applied to ten different ones across the SW states..... I got sucked into the Denton Vortex...... (Smirks) never left for very long.... Visits don't count (giggles) right?
