I keep a running shopping list, and when it includes items that we are used up, and that we really need/ want, it's finally time to go to the store. Hate shopping! Most people are wearing masks, but some aren't and it's just not comfortable or safe.

Nothing new! Plague is endemic in prairie dogs and their fleas in the American southwest, including Colorado, and has been for a long time. Human cases pop up from contact with them, and pet cats especially, who are allowed outside in those areas.
Never camp on a prairie dog town!!!

Our numbers are fairly low, but climbing.
That's us here as well.

Because we are more spread out it hasn't gone through the community as fast and people have not been taking precautions despite state mandates. That's now catching up.
Mayors and local leaders are trying to add mandates on countywide or city wide levels and begging people to wear masks and use the CDC guidelines! Hospitals are warning they are filling up fast and now Covid-19 is in the senior facilities, the college campuses, and spreading fast via restaurants and gathering places.

I think last week I mentioned a neighbor having a large 4th of July party and about 30 people there...well on Sunday another neighbor 2 houses over had a large backyard birthday party of about 40 plus people. From toddlers to grandparents and like the July 4th one, not a thing different than any typical country party.
All I could picture in my mind was the Covid spread chart....

(Very glad I have a few acres between me and them! )

Domestic cats get sick and die too, and at the very least, should have flea and tick protection if going outside there (and everywhere!). I'd always ask about where the pet has been, because it matters...

The second best reason to keep cats indoors - after their destruction of native wildlife.

There is curbside pickup for virtually everything here now. Most of the grocery store chains, hardware stores, places like Target, computer stores and even industrial supply houses like Grainger. Most of the shoppers I see in grocery stores are personal shoppers like Instacart, Peapod and Fresh Direct. Everyone pushing a cart while staring at their smart phone while they peruse the shelves. That's probably half the shoppers at our primary grocery chain. I went to Whole Foods last week and perhaps 70% were Personal Shoppers.

There's a big difference in stores though. Someone at Schnucks, Whole Foods and Dierbergs disinfects every cart handle when someone walks out of the store. One store even put automatic brakes on the carts to keep people from getting too close. Then at Seafood City Supermarket (a gigantic Asian/Latin food market that I love) they don't do that disinfecting but they do require mask wearing.

Oh wow, that's cool! Interesting that stores outside of grocery stores are doing pick-ups. That's not something available out here; you still have to physically go to the hardware store for things, and pick-up is limited to groceries at stores like WalMart.

It's available but not awesome. They are usually out of more than half of our order and want to do substitutions. So we'd rather go and see what IS available so we can pick our own subs or decide to try another store or do without for another week.

Makes sense. It's funny what sorts of substitutions they do sometimes; one time I asked for canned pinto beans, chili beans, and tomatoes, and somehow ended up with 10 cans of pinto beans and nothing else :th
