People at work thought a pony would grow up to be a horseHence the problem with 'colt', spoken by folks who should know better. It's a colt or filly, or if already gelded, a gelding.

What a WONDERFUL buncha boys ... all three of 'em! I wanna do this with a Guernsey steer in THE. WORST. WAY!DH with John and Walker, at a farm/ pioneer gathering in Wisconsin, long ago. Both were Milking Shorthorns, and about 2900 pounds each!

We are members of the MidWest Ox Drover's Ass'n, with members all over, and there's a website, with photos. There are more people (4H'rs) in the NE, and it's really a fun activity. I'm more about horses, and DH is the cattle guy here.

Actually.... *pushes up fake nerd glasses* The etymology of "man" is gender neutral. Originally it was "Werman" (male) "Wifman" (female) and "Man". Eventually "man" became the default for male AND the gender neutral but "woman" was still considered separate from the neutral.
Language is just weird like that.
