Not sure I trust the tests either.
I so agree with you on the tests, We had a patient who was tested 3 times, first 2 were neg even though they were showing symptoms at the time, 3rd test was pos as they were being admitted to the hospital. Co-workers daughter has covid they did 2 tests on her, the nasal swab was neg and they saliva swab was pos. I now have what feels like a mild cold. I have not been tested yet and won't be unless thing get worse.

Hi, again, my fellow BYC friends. We are all living through the most significant, world-wide crisis that most of us will experience in our lifetimes. It feels suffocating, sometimes literally, for everyone who is sick, isolated, jobless, food insecure, under threat of losing their home...the list goes on and on. And even though we know this pandemic is affecting the entire human race--it's incredibly difficult to grasp that fact.

No matter your political or religious beliefs, we're all aware of the effects of discord and the inability to come to a consensus about the best path forward. Our collective mental health is taking a severe beating. We are all frightened and doing what we can to grapple with our fear.

This chaos will not end until the pandemic ends, and it seems that we have about a year to go before we may feel control over our lives again. Until then, I am doing my best to take care of my family (including my flock!), respect those with whom I disagree (including my mom), and protect the health and safety of everyone around me (including my husband who has Covid-19).

Be well.

Also this has nothing to do with what we were talking about (sorta), but have any of you noticed an increased price of feed for your poultry since COVID?

The farmer that mills went to plain brown bags instead of white bags with his logo. Same price, local non gmo grains.

Also on average how much do you guys pay for a 50lb bag of feed? Here it is about $11-$15 depending on the type of feed. This is kind of random I was just wanting to see how different prices were idk.
18 for 28% turkey, everyone gets the same.

How often would you guys say you buy feed? How many birds / animals do you have & how much feed do you normally buy?

Sorry for my feed obsession. I’m just curious.

For me, I buy feed bi-weekly. I have a total of 24 chickens, almost 30 guineas, 7 call ducks, and 10 quail. I buy anywhere from 4-6 50lb bags of feed when I go. I also have reptiles indoors, and I buy them feeder crickets every other week as well. I usually buy 50-60 at a time at ¢13 per cricket. I only have to buy feed for my rabbit once a month, he doesn’t really eat all that much. I buy cat food bi-weekly, and get a 25lb bag, usually.

I buy 600 lbs at a time... it's what my Ford escape can carry. Usually lasts a month.... depends on what they can forage and how many grow outs.
Right now I have about
40 chicken hens 4roos, 40 grow outs
16 turkey hens, 2 toms, 1 jake, 12 grow outs

14 chickens...are eating a bit less during non-laying season.
50# once a month...usually about every 3 weeks when laying.
Price has not changed but I buy commercial (Purina Flock Raiser)

Well said, deirdre! If there were more people like you -- including a certain person who lives in DC -- we wouldn't be where we are now.

Continuing good wishes for your husband and your family and all those whose lives have been made precarious by this virus.

Well, I see that the trolls were out in full force last night. My greatest aggravation in human nature is those who go through life acting as if their actions have no impact on others. Followed by others who have all the answers. Have a safe and happy day.
I have a question for you. Since we both live in the same state and I’m sure we’ve both been following all of this closely.
Do you remember back in March when “the woman who needs no introduction Judy Persichilli” stated in a briefing that we would all be exposed because it’s a virus and the measures are only to stop the overloading of hospitals? They did lockdowns, masks, and all sorts of other measures like limiting capacity, businesses closing early etc.. They keep moving the goal posts and changing the rules of the game. So...since they’ve already done a lockdown and then reopened I suppose the answer is another lockdown?

I have an acquaintance - very intelligent person - who is an anti masker/social distancer/hoaxer. For Thanksgiving he hosted his 6 kids, their significant others, a ton of grandkids. Yesterday his 30 year old son ended up in ICU with coronavirus. It's now very real to him - far too late.
