YES!! Exactly!!! Well said! I’ve heard so many stories of doodles being extremely matted and/or needing to be shaved down and then having horrible skin infections underneath cause the owners didn’t realize they needed to be brushed or groomedRemember that "Non-shedding" is actually a misnomer. All dogs shed ... just some less than others. With most of the "non-shedding" breeds, the fur still sheds, it just catches in the coat. Those nasty knots behind their ears and the in the skirts ... yup! That's why its SO important to brush your doodle, or poodle, or shih-tzu or whatever. If you don't, the shed hair causes all sorts of mats and costs you a small fortune at the groomer. Start puppies young and they'll enjoy the bonding time, instead of dreading the tug and pull on mats.
My std poodle never shed, I learned to keep him cut short so the curls wouldn't mat. With most of the "non-shedding" breeds, the fur still sheds, it just catches in the coat.
Oooooooo! That's my absolute dream dog! A big, black standard poodle! I don't even care about gender. When I'm ready, I'll put my feelers out through a few friends in the show community. They sometimes have dogs that don't do well in the show ring and won't make the breeding cut. There are also older dogs done with the breeding program (not puppy mills, small, private, two or three dog show homes.) I'd rather have a rescue, anyway ... and that sortof works! My std poodle never shed, I learned to keep him cut short so the curls wouldn't mat.

I've had poodle mixes all my life. We've had others, as well, but there's always a poodle mix in the pack. The weird part is that I have never gone looking for one, not even at a rescue or the pound. They've all been wandering strays who found us, not the other way around. The one exception was one hand-me-down peek-a-poo who was rescued from a cousin. Her kids' neglect left him so matted that we didn't recognize him when we picked him up from the groomer/shaver, He was supposed to go to a friend, but he was the first dog to choose me ... so he stayed. I had my Frisky for 15 years. He was my first, true heart-dog.Poodles are lovely dogs and I'd be thrilled to own one.
But it's D's turn to pick a dog next and he wants a long boi (greyhound). Which may not be ideal for our climate and lifestyle when we're ready for the Next Dog (tm). We're just gonna hafta see how it all pans out.
My guy came from SPCA, they had a litter of 4-5-6 six month old pups, and a moving story about a neglectful backyard 'breeder'. He had issues for sure, physical and social, but slowly turned into a great dog, the best of the 3 I've had.Oooooooo! That's my absolute dream dog! A big, black standard poodle! Most greyhounds are actually huge couch potatoes and sleepy babies when they’re not zooming around.Poodles are lovely dogs and I'd be thrilled to own one.

Most greyhounds are actually huge couch potatoes and sleepy babies when they’re not zooming around.they do run fast but they only zoom for brief periods then sleep hard
