Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

That's not actually true, the drugs are actually different. and Ivermectin has been in trials, and didn't make a difference in patient outcomes.
Also, the whole thing started because in test tubes, at 100x the human dose, it killed C-19 virus. Nice, but 100x the human dose in a test tube isn't helpful in real patients at safe dosages. It's great drug if you have roundworms, but for viruses, not so much.

Oxford is doing an ivermectin trial.

Ivermectin doesn't "kill" the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Ivermectin binds to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, limiting SARS-CoV-2 binding to either the ACE-2 receptor or sialic acid receptors. This either prevents cellular entry of the virus or prevents hemagglutination, respectively.

Ivermectin has also been shown to bind to or interfere with multiple essential structural and non-structural proteins required by the virus in order to replicate. Ivermectin also binds to the SARS-CoV-2 RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), thereby inhibiting viral replication.

The source studies are listed at the bottom of this pdf document.

As far as dosage, I agree that the concentrations required for effect in cell culture models bear little resemblance to human physiology given the absence of an active immune system working synergistically with a therapeutic agent such as Ivermectin. Prolonged durations of exposure to a drug likely would require a fraction of the dosing used in short term cell model exposure. I don't know what amount "100x the human dose" is. The minimum recommended treatment protocol for someone 150 lbs. (dosing is based on weight) is approximately 27mg, once a day for five days.

Good, actual studies and trials are good. Much better than at-home experiments!

I agree. Clinical studies on the efficacy of ivermectin in treating mildly ill outpatients, clinical studies of the efficacy of ivermectin in hospitalized patients, Ivermectin's use in post-COVID-19 syndrome, and epidemiological data showing impacts of widespread Ivermectin use on population case counts and case fatality rates can be found here.

That's some good reading.
