Thanks for sharing all of this great info! I purchased three female Coturnix Quails on Craigslist and now I'm wondering if they all truly are female. I watched your videos and read through the material you've posted here. Now I'm leaning towards saying they're all hens. All of them seem to have that rust color though and one has so few spots that I'm wondering if they really "count"
. I've attached a couple of pictures. What do you think? None of them has laid any eggs since I got them 4 days ago. I've kept them inside in a well lit and warm room, keeping the lights on into the night for a bit to extend their day hours. I've been feeding them and turkey and game high protein laying feed recommended by my local feed store. If they're hens shouldn't they be laying soon? Also, is there any way to tell if these are "Jumbo" Coturnix vs the Pharoah size, or is that just a name given to the larger birds of the same species? Thanks and Merry Christmas!
