that's a blue faced baby my dear! (my FAVORITE)!!!!

A black or brown looking chick is none other than a blue faced. If it's a hen it will stay a dark brown as an adult, if it's a male at 4 weeks it should already be showing gorgeosu blue feathers from head to belly. They are drool worthy!

Heres some examples of blue faced BQS (i cannot wait to get my own lol):

with your chick having white on it's throat area...that means it's a double factor blue faced...i dotn know much about this, but to me i think it means the bird is dominant for producing blue faced chicks but i am not sure!!! so dont hold me to it LOL! Doesnt meanit's a male it could be a hen and have a bib...as my pretty wild pied hen does

. Plus blue faced males normally dont have a bib

this is the caption for that chick: a nearly all black chick, some individuals have white facial and chest down markings. (note white on facial area of this chick)

heres another blue faced chick: http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewButtonquail/NewPicts/BlueFace_chick.JPG

this

this
is a youngster double factor chick with the bib (blue face): http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewButtonquail/Quail%20Pictures/dblBF.jpg

this
is a single factor blue faced hen: http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewButtonquail/Quail%20Pictures/SFBF.jpg

i
can't find a double factor hen but tehy are much darker than the single factor hen and i assume keep the white bib

Well, just for poops and giggles, here's a current pic of them. Note the mohawks on the A&M's, so cute! They are feathering out really fast, and they are either 3 or 4 weeks, don't remember exactly. I'll do a search and see when I posted them hatching!

<edit> I got those eggs (buttons) from marie_martin, so maybe you should try her! The two that were dead in shell were silvers I think. Oh yeah, you can still see the bib on it in both pics!

Wow, ok I was way off! They are just now about 3 weeks old!! It seems like it has been longer! The button is the size of a week old bantam chick already!

As for Marie Martin I did buy from her a lot actually but my faulty incubator had other ideas...i onyl got one chick to sucessfully hatch...a wild male....and my darn cat got into the brooder when he was 4 weeks old (the chick was 4 weeks old not my cat lol) and he grabbed him...he scratched my chick on the braest area...very lightly...and the kitty saliva must have killed him OR my cat may have soemhow done internal damage because by the time i rescued him he was fnie just wet witha tiny scratch...and he died the next nighti was raelly sad.

Ihope to get some more BQ eggs from her in the spring she's a great button seller hehe!

Hope I get at least 1 more from the eggs Mr. AK sent me!! There's 48 left out of 50, broke 2 getting them out of the carton
sad.png
so with my record of 1 out of 20 eggs, I should get at least 2 more!!
