Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

Ive heard pine shavings are fine but not cedar. I use mesh shelf liner with viva paper towels on top. Some other paper towels are slippery. I have had problems with baby birds not just quail eating shavings and even that papper shaving stuff so I choose not to. But I know people who swear by both I think it comes down to personal preferences. Mine are on wire as soon as their feet are big enough so the shelf liner and paper towel protects them from it plus its easier to keep sanitary.

Cockle dood- I personally have always started my chicks on wood shavings and I have never had any have any leg trouble.

I purchased 8 coturnix quail 2wks ago. 6 hens and 2 males. They are almost 1 year old. No eggs so far. I know it may take time for them to adjust to their new home but I am getting anxious for eggs. Several are losing feathers so I think they might be molting too. Ugh! I am feeding purina flock raiser sun fresh crumble 20%. That is all I have been able to find at TSC. What do you all think? Is my feed adequate? When can I expect eggs? Thank you!
