Ok, My experience, this fall & winter with the quails, was wonderful " BUT" keeping them in was not good ! I had them in my office, that dander dust was horrible, I believe it made me sick . The cage should B cleaned often. Mine love hay & love shavings to dust bath in. They have been outside under the hay coverage in their cage for a few months now & seem very happy. I myself would not have them in the house again, way to much dander. Jusy My Opinion , FYI:thumbsup

I would'nt think your room would doable long term unless it was just a couple. That said, wood chips or pellets, changed almost daily, are commonly used. Also kitty litter as been mentioned but I have never tried it. A sprinkle of barn lime does help but in your room it could be a problem. The ammonia smell is going to be equaled by the dust they create. I would not have believed a few birds in a brooder could make so much dust. Nasty little bits of floating feathers everytime they get excited... Not something I would look forward to more than a few weeks. Im always glad when they are old enough to move OUTSIDE!!! Good luck, Bill

As for state laws, I read that in Texas, a permit is required for Bob White quail but not for Pharaoh quail.

I was at a Trade Day in Conroe yesterday and am now the proud owner of 10 six week old A&M quail! I hadn't finished the quail pens at that point but boy did that give me the incentive to finish it LOL!
