I know this, mine either ... You can make them a little more tame with some treats. Mine Love mealworms, they are mad about them.

Such pretty birds! Mine would never let me hand feed them. They panic when I open the door of the pen.

Mine also jump around skittish and panic, when I collect eggs and chance water and feed, but if they see a live mealworm fidget, they come like mad (not all).

I should try that sometime....I haven't already because I don't normally give them access to grit.

You should dose it wisely, as mealworms contain much fat and too much of the chitin exosceleton isn't good for quails either.

I give them some twice a week.

I will make a note of this. Do you give your quail any fresh fruit/vegetables?

Yes, occasional and also dosed. Mine like basil, lettuce and baby pak choi.
They ignore most other things ... mine are very fussy, as I heard from others that they feed also lot of other things.

As mentioned dose it either, as too much greens can cause diarrhoea

They are beautiful! It is nice how quail mature so quickly, so you can have many generations in a short space of time.
