Coturnix square footage?

Its the dust. Can cause problems with people breathing. If you look way back when BYC started. Warnings were everywhere. But nobody listened, cause they are so cute. Me either. But then I know the dangers. I am not talking about having a few birds in the house. I am talking about having a lot of babies batch after batch or a lot of birds in the house. It is a concern for human health. asthma, broncitis, emphasema, etc. COPD, that's me.

I normally brood in my extra bathroom that is not used much. Every batch, everything has to be washed including the walls, etc. This is when you see what they are talking about. But there are ways to keep the dust down. Like the rubber mats on top of the shavings. Helps trememdously. I bet that special what is it yesterdays news helps, but I haven't found it here. This is why normally, they go out to their brooder box after they are 5-10 days old, depending on weather. But right now, its freezing and I am not going to put them out there, yet. Ah but tomorrow, maybe, their 2 weeks old today. Next week they are going to start some serious eating, so they need to go out.

Many years ago, all brooding was done in the chicken house or brooder house or one of the outbuildings. Now most people don't have those buildings. I have a small brooder house for my chickens, but I am not going to put my Coturnix out there. So now they have their own brooder box outside to keep them nice and warm.
