Countdown To Eggs! For June hatches 😊

I have a flock of 10, all hatched in June this year 6/3, 6/10 and 6/21).

Since the first just turned 12 weeks, I am getting excited watching them mature and get their new feathers, while they work out the pecking order.

I am hoping to get an egg by November (worry that light might play a part), but I think October is a possibility! None of mine are production breeds, so I don’t think anyone will be super early.

Feel free to join this thread if you also have June babies, and let’s wait together to see when each of our ladies lays their first egg! Post a pic of the egg and who laid it! (General location would be awesome too, to see if it had any impact). Once the first lays, I’m sure the posts will come flying in!
Are you kidding? I have March and April birds that I’m still hoping will lay by November. I also have June birds, so I guess I’m cleared to join in. 😁

I have some CQs from about the same time. We’ll be needing to see some pics of these bantam Cochins you speak of.

Well, if you insist. 😁 This was the whole brood a couple weeks ago; silkied Blacks and Blues, and smooth Chocolates. Not many destined to lay eggs in this group, unfortunately, but that's how it goes with hatching sometimes.

What breeds are your March & April birds? You couldve joined without June birds, but it wouldn’t be as fun 😂.
My June babies are all bantam Cochins, so I don't expect to see eggs from them until early next year. 🤭 They all hatched around June 9.
I have heard such wonderful things about bantam Cochins! How long does it usually take them to lay?

Last year I got chicks born July 22, and we got our first two eggs Dec 24. Since this year my earliest two were June 3, I am hoping maybe by first week of November, and with it being lighter longer, maybe even a week or two before…but who knows!

I have fake wood eggs all ready to go in the nest boxes when I think they are close! 😂

:frow Following! All of my babies were born in May, though. Do you have any pics?
One SLW has been very red from the beginning, but comb is small & I seem to remember one of my GLW was the same last year.
My SLWs also have really red combs. Maybe it's a SLW thing. :idunno

I love them a lot. :love They are definitely not prolific layers, though! 🤭 I'd have to look up when previous broods have come into lay, but last year's girls (from the same source as this year's brood) hatched toward the end of May and didn't start laying until mid-March this year, so just under 10 months. I think the light levels and wintertime had a lot to do with that because I distinctly remember one of my 2020 girls, also from the same source, hatching April 1st and laying her first egg on Thanksgiving of the same year, just under 8 months of age. Either way, that puts me at the beginning of next year for eggs from my June babies.
