Countdown To Eggs! For June hatches 😊

Pics
ok so dumb question.

So I have been paying close attention to my coop cam in hopes of finding out who laid under the poop boards...... Well my EE (April 2021 hatch) has been running all over looking like she is searching. I have put stuff in the spot that they laid last time. She laid a darker turquoise/green egg before she stopped laying. Could she lay a really LIGHT egg if it was her that just started up after a few months???? Thinking maybe it was her egg. But her eggs were NOT a pale color before.

I know they can't change colors but what about be lighter of maybe the same color..... like a LOT lighter. LOL

They can't go from being a blue egg layer to a brown egg layer, or a white egg layer to chocolate brown, for example, but the shade of their egg color can vary, especially from beginning of an egg laying cycle to the end of that cycle. Typically, they're darkest at the beginning of the cycle and palest at the end, but it's not unheard of for them to have a couple 'misfires' before they get the color back to its normal for them. It sounds like that could be the case here... Although I personally wouldn't expect a huge difference in egg color from the same bird... 🤔

I got another mint chip egg! 😍 I know it’s not the Marans or Legbars but everyone else is a possibility. If I took a guess I’d say it’s my only Silverudd’s hen. Since she’s the only bird I expected a medium green egg from. It seems a bit too fancy for a Hoover’s Easter Egger or my local barnyard mixes. Chickens do like to surprise you though. 🤷‍♀️

The colors are so hard to get pics of, but will try to find a pic of her egg from last year compared to the one I found.

In the group of 3 the top one is hers. Then the first pic is the egg I just found. The next 2 are her first egg.

Such beautiful eggs! I love looking at all the pretty colors!

I think it’s from a July hatch-a-long Legbar. I got my hatching eggs from a breeder who emphasizes blue egg color. This picture shows it a bit better. It’s a lovely shade of blue in person.

I have 3 hens and rooster from those Legbar eggs. Unfortunately, the rooster I kept, based on his chick down markings, is a few sandwiches shy of a picnic. He’s not aggressive but it still makes me hesitant to pass on his genetics. If I do hatch any of his eggs it’ll be with completely new blood, mixed birds, not his hatchmates. For a pet project line of colored egg layers I’m hoping to start.

It really is tough to get egg colors right in pictures! The one I just posted looks a bit browner in that picture than it does in person, ugh!

Anyway, those eggs are suspiciously similar! 🤔

I may have actually gotten an egg from one of my June girls today... or maybe from my Easter-hatched naked neck bantam who I thought was laying before but apparently actually hasn't been. Not totally sure. 🤔 (Don't mind how red my hand is, it's chilly here and my fingers got a bit cold out there )

That looks like a pretty large egg for a bantam. It guess it’s something else. That’s based on my handful of bantam Cochins and Silkies I’ve had over the years. Their eggs were always very small.
