This is Pepper - eating grass seeds off the long grass

Unfortunately Larry passed away, but my BIL calls Pepper, Larry Jr. I started calling her Pepper-Larry 😊 she likes to tattle on her sisters ‘Goldie went and laid an egg in someone else’s nestbox, she was so mean she dragged poor Muffy out by her head!’

‘What are you gonna do about that Hooman?’
I love it. Great story.

Hello. Some of you know that it used to be a very active member on this thread. I just can’t keep up these days and I’m not on BYC as much as I used to be. Those of you who know me might remember that my dear Barred Rock, Bridge, was my oldest and dearest hen. She died at 12:35 AM today. May she rest in peace.

Here she is in all her glory. I’ll add a photo of her little grave at the end.

I'm so very sorry. Thanks so much for sharing with us all. I still sing the Bridge song.

Please remind me how old Bridge was. She lived a long special life with you. You did very well by her. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

I am so sorry for your loss, I know Bridgie was a very special lady - I used to love the videos you would post singing to her!!

That said, I also know she hasn't been well for a long time - so, she is now at least no longer in pain - but you have taken on that burden (emotionally, if not physically!):hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

They steal our hearts, then leave us so very much too soon.:hit:hit

That’s interesting, I have never seen blue or green eggs commercially sold here. Only white and brown.

Wonder what breed/hybrid they have for their blue eggs…. Probably Azure like my girls. Leghorn x Auracana- a production breed hybrid for sure.

@micstrachan
Thank you very much for the info on heating pads and inverters/power tool batteries!

I have DeWalt batteries, but found an inverter compatible with DeWalt - ordered 2 of those and a couple of the heating pads! 1 long one (to put on a roost), one small one (thinking can go in a next box, and uses the least Wattage), and one large one I will use with a brooder plate for chicks! Thank you so very much for this - it has been really, really hard this winter with no electricity to the coop.

Sorry, I know you posted on the other thread, but didn't want to jam up that one any more than needed!

@BY Bob not sure which brand of power tools you use, but the inverter that is compatible with Dewalt has a good rating! If you use DeWalt, let me know and I'll let you know how I like these once they arrive and I get to try them out. I'm sure my chickens will like the extra heat!

chicken found it self a foot warmer ...

Seems this chicken found it's own foot warmer!!!😆😆

what breed of hen(s) do happy egg eggs come from?

It depends on the egg! Our free range and pasture raised eggs come primarily from brown-egg-laying Lohmann breeds, best known for their laid-back personalities, bountiful egg-laying, and range-roving curiosity. We also have the easygoing, fun-loving, and sturdy Hyline breed hens in our mix. Our Heritage Eggs are laid by unique Heritage Breed hens. The Heritage Blue hens lay the beautiful pastel-blue-shelled eggs, while the Heritage Browns lay the deep, chocolate brown-shelled eggs

Two brown chickens - my most reliable set of buddies. There's something to that idea that chickens like to hang out with chickens that look like them.
These two, however, are different breeds - Cornelia is a Welsummer(on the right in the first picture) and Emily an EE, so probably brown Leghorn plus something blue laying? I have another EE who looks pretty different, so these two are best buds.
