coyotes getting more brazen! what to do?

So sorry for your losses! That is scary for a coyote to come that close! I know the best advice is to make high fences. But that is expensive, and like you said- hard to do. I, personally, would just say, - get your gun- but if you are not comfortable with that, then your last option is prob to just call the animal control center.

Make sure you check your laws. It’s illegal in WI to kill a coyote out of season. I’m not saying the nice hunters don’t take care of coyotes during the deer season when the pack is surrounding their tree but they know who they can trust to tell in the community.
In my back woods the coyote pack keep the wolves away from the area, if the cougar is around all wolves and coyotes stay farther away. I’m wondering what is pushing them to you. If the coyotes mysteriously disappear, don’t let your guard down in case another predator is pushing into their territory.

10 feet is way too close. They obviously don't fear people, and that's not good. In Ohio, there is open season on coyote and we shoot when they get too bold. I've never had one within several hundred feet of me. They fear us though because they know we shoot.

I have used leg traps in the past with a bird that was killed by the predator. It got caught in the leg traps. I don't use them anymore because more and more people have been buying property around us and building so I'm seeing more cats and dogs so now I'm using live traps exclusively.

They are brazen I have a 6ft industrial chain link area off the back side of my barn. It was after dark and I was sitting with the geese still having their pool party.. I heard a quick noise of the chain link from the far end of the area and then my two LGDs raced out from inside the barn passed me, and something hit the chain link again. It was a coyote.. And I was sitting right there with the geese for the coyote to think to try to rush in on the geese with me right there in the lighted area. Thats the most brazen I have ever seen a coyote act.. Usually I put the birds up in the barn before it gets dark. Am sure the noise of the pool party was just too tempting not to try... For dogs to be effective you need the right amount of them for the predator (s) your up against.
