coyotes out during the day?

I've seen them during the day. Could be there are cubs to feed?

I should've clarified that skunk comment.

Back when I lived in Placer County, the skunks we saw out during the day were all doing figure eights in the driveway and ambling no place in particular. We shot them and called the County Animal Control. Placer County that year ranked highest IN THE NATION for rabid animals (probably because of all the skunks picked up in the neighborhood).... so much so that I was required to get rabies shots (0www) after inadvertently cleaning up varmint-eaten goose eggs with raw gardening hands due to fear of what was in the saliva. It wasn't my desire with a casual inquiry, but the CDC gave a hurried call to my doc and insurance carriers to do so PRONTO.

We also had feral cats doing the figure eight dance, too.

Now, we've all seen the pictures of skunks with their heads in a peanut butter jar or some such during daylight hours and I should've taken that into consideration in my previous answer. Mea culpa....

Mating to rearing seasons are January-June.

LOL speaking of skunks with jars on their heads... In fall I received a call for a skunk with a yogurt container stuck on its little noggin for hours. Poor thing REALLY had it wedged on there good. I didn't think I was going to be able to get it off, but I ended up putting a comforter over him and holding him down with one hand, and twisting the container off with the other. He shook off and took off after spraying into the comforter, haha. Smart little cookie, though, it was a Yoplait light container. They have some really amazing flavors.

It's not uncommon for coyotes to be out during the day. They are primarily nocturnal, but they are also opportunists. They will be scrounging around whenever and wherever they discover is the most beneficial.

I've seen lone coyotes walking around here during the day, not very often though. It's usually a dreary, rainy day when there isn't much activity outside when I'll see one walking through the hay fields.

It is springtime, if they have litters of the right age, they are out "learning" how to survive. I see them during the day quite often while hiking in the local mountain preserves, even on the street in the neighborhood, occasionally.

We hunt coyotes for predator control. See them at all times of the day. They get especially stupid during calving season, February and March. They don't do so well trying to outrun a .223.

I've seen one out in our back field the last two mornings in a row on the way to work. I assume he's scoping out the flock of turkeys that have been hanging in that area regularly the last couple of months.

Coyotes are more opportunistic than they are nocturnal. I have seen coyotes out during the day but the day is usually overcast. If it sees you and does not try to hide then I would worry. Most times if they know they have been seen they will go a different direction. At least the ones I've come across.
