See? I'm so helpful!

I'm making ugly dolls (I've been doing this for years, saw some in the paper the other day and thought...look how much money I save my family!)
Also making a few blanket dolls, and have to get going on crochet items...

I'm still kicking myself for not getting soap made this summer...I may pour some of my homemade laundry detergent in a jar and add to baskets...hmmmm, the family all say they will make some but they never do...if they just knew how much money I saved there too!

Here it is in color so you can get a better idea of what it should look like. What do you think?

I wanted the flowers to be sunflowers so I chose golds to do them instead of reds.

What I'm currently making is a mess

But I have some soaps for gifts curing. Made some rose scented castile soap a month ago and just hand milled part of it and mixed in some milk. When it all cures I'm going to compare and see which I like better. I hate the color but I'm betting that the recipients will love it. They're sort of an orangy rose, which sounds great but I think it looks sick lol. Oh and the stuff has dried rose petals in it too.

Yesterday I hand carved a set of house numbers for a neighbor that is always helping me out. He admired mine so I made him one. Mine has a chicken on it and since he's retired from the phone company, his has a bell on it. He loved it.

Butchered a couple of chickens for meat the day before, they came out looking wonderful. I'll be canning some broth in a few days as I will be cutting them up and making broth from the backs.

Next project will be paper. I have been saving dryer lint that I want to experiment with in making paper. I've made some using a bit of lint and the rest paper and it came out well. I'm going to try upping the lint content a little at a time and see what I come up with. The lint is a baby blue since I dry so many pairs of jeans. So it should be mainly cotton, too. We'll see.

I have finished a few pair of mittens in hand spun yarn and a pair of socks (handspun) for DH. The mitts have the finger part roll back (even has openings at the end of the thumbs for easy texting!) and a couple for children made from acrylic yarn. One pair looks like dogs, another looks like dragons. I have one elbow length lace fingerless mitts from handspun completed. Still have more yarn to spin for a shrug. Three mini - punch needlework with Americana sheep scenes.

That's been the last two weeks. More to come as Christmas gets closer!
