Crafters- What are you making???

As an alternative to hats, I like to wear hooded scarves. I just knit a large enough scarf, fold it in half and seam one edge a little way down, starting at the fold. That makes the hood.

It gets really cold here. I wear glasses and they keep hats from fitting as nicely over my ears, compared to when I didn't wear glasses. The hooded scarves also don't give me such bad "hat hair."

I have one that is a long scarf and is lighter weight, so it drapes well. This I often wear with one side crossed in front of my neck and over the shoulder. I have another that is heavier and thicker. This one is shorter and I wear it with the ends just criss-crossed over my neck and tucked into the v-neck of my coat. It keeps my neck and chest warmer in my dress coat, as well as my ears and head.

I have been falling behind on my crafting too.... I decided to major in art and went back to school this semester. So my time is being taken up by lots of school in addition to the kiddo's, DH, and chickens.

I think I would like to make the blown eggs. i have the eggs, and beads and paint, so those will be cheap to make.

mrsengeseth, do you make yours as ornaments? If so, how do you attach something to them to hang them on the tree? I can't use the heirloom ones that I was given to check it out b/c my aunt glued lace to the top of them where the holes are to give them a finished look.

Those hooded scarves would be perfect for me. I have to have a coat with a hood, and most coats with hoods don't go with dress clothes, or I can't afford them. That is a great idea to pair one of those with a nice hoodless coat that someone already owns.

Okiemommy, I made blown egg ornaments for my family for Christmas last year. To hang them, I took a loop of ribbon and speared it with a pearl-headed pin. Then I cut enough off the point of the pin to make it fit when I stuck it inside the egg (my pens were longer than the length of the egg). I put a little superglue around the base of the pearl so that it stuck to the egg shell around the edge of the hole. Worked like a charm!

I did the same thing at the bottom of the ornament, except instead of the ribbon I used a small fake flower. Remove the flwer from the stem and take out the plastic center, then you have a hole to insert the pin through and it makes sure the bottom hole is completely masked. Really cute!

I’m probably decoupaging some boxes as gifts this year. The McMurray Hatchery catalogue has a lot of nice artwork of chicken in it that I use. I also use pressed flowers and other art.

I take a syringe style glue applicator, and push a little glue INTO the hole from blowing out the egg, then I push the ends of my string, threading, ribbon or whatever I am using for a hanger into the end i put the glue in. Then, from the opposite end, I use a long thin needle to tamp the end of the string/ribbon into the glue on the inside of the egg. If I push from the hole on the other end I can be sure i have made the string/ribbon adhere to the glue.

that sounds clear as mud to me, but I hope it makes sense.

Thanks wegotchickens and mrsengeseth! I was thinking as I was reading your posts.....I would like to put beads on mine some how.

How to do that...hmm how to dooo thaaat? ^_^

Soooo after reading your posts, here's what I thought: I could take some fishing thread and loop it large enough to have a "hanging" loop at the top, and then have some ends on the bottom of the egg that I could string beads onto the end lines and put a bead caps on the ends to keep the beads from falling off!!

And if i wanted to I could put two loops through so that I would have four strings of beads hanging down from the bottom. Aaaaaaannnd I could put some beads on the loop part if I can coordinate it well enough.

Thanks for helping me visualize how to hang them! I wasn't seeing it at first. I think I was worried about the fragility of the shell and how I would string something without crushing it.

ahem.....scrambled you can do this!!!!

Scrambled - what are the corks for? Hanging on the tree?

I know when I UN-cork a bottle there is never any need to put a cork BACK in.
