So there was a post on another thread (inexpensive gifts to make,) where someone took a basket, filled it with pine cones and Christmas lights, and set it on a shelf as a night light. It's really cool, and got me thinking...........what if you took blown eggs, put small lights inside of them, and put them in a basket. Would that be cool, or what? Would the Christmas lights be bright enough to glow inside the egg???? What do you guys think?

Or would the egg just turn black like they do when you cook them too long in the oven for the chickens? I don't know much about these new L.E.D. lights but they might not put off so much heat as the traditional lights. Sorry to be so boring but I am paranoid about fires since my Mother lost her home (my childhood home) in a fire.

Well I don't blame you there.
LED lights put off very little heat. Anything that electricity passes through is going to give off some type of heat. But they give off very little. Go to your local Target...they have usually have the Christmas lights displayed in little cones so you can see what they look like before you buy them. You can feel the bulbs to tell how (not) hot they get. That should put your mind at ease

The one thing that I would wonder about is how are they going to look in eggs. LED's give off more color distortion than incandescent(regular Christmas bulbs) The only way to test it, is to get a small box of the color you want, and test it out and see if you like it. If you're looking for a soft glow...I am thinking that the LED's wont provide that, BUT I could be wrong.


If the effect that you're going for doesn't materialize with the LED's, there are low heat regular lights you can buy. I just don't know if they will still be too warm for the eggs. Hope this helps

Jacie.....those are beautiful. My 10 year old (w/out seeing you post) tried putting Christmas lights inside our blown out eggs. She got upst because she broke one and I told her that the hole needed to be bigger for the light. Now she won't try cause she's afaid of breaking another.....I told ehr that we have an endless supply

I have a big basket that I fill with different colored glass ornaments (the cheap round ones) and a strand of Christmas lights. I stick the basket in a corner of the kitchen and turn on the lights at night. The lights shine off the different colored ornaments and shine off the walls and floor of the kitchen, it's actually quite pretty.

Right now I'm working on fabric gift bags. I'm tired of buying the paper ones that just get thrown away, so I thought I'd make some out of the fabric that I already have laying around the house.
