I have been busy on shutterfly making a wedding album for my father in law and his new bride. They are both over 70 years old and just married on the 13th of Nov. Each had been married 49 years to their first spouses, and each lost them to cancer 3 years ago. I am not a scrap booker by nature, and am finding this whole process even w/ the help of shutterfly stressfull, but can't imagine it was even doable w/o shutterfly!!!!! (for me anyway)

It is for a pre-teen, I can sew but would like something that I don't have to put alot into because it will only be wore once & I am in the middle of building a house.

What about a black head to toe leotard with the note cut out of a large piece of stryfoam and spray painted black with glitter sprinkled in?

I was thinking felt with an iron-on interfacing for stiffness. The iron-on interfacing comes in black (well actually a dark gray color) and will not make it so stiff that the person can't move. Also it will not crack if hit or fall apart in water like some other options. IDK, I like the idea of black tights and leotards under the note. If it's going to be cold you could swap out any black clothing with a black watchcap and scarf for warmth. If both sides are going to be viewed simply fold your material in half before cutting (cut interfacing at the same time) to get 2 sides.

HINT* Put parchment paper under edges of fusible interfacing (between fabric and ironing board)and under iron to avoid mishaps. I had a teenage girl helping me once and she neglected to do this and ruined my iron when she accidently ironed the fusible interfacing upside down.

She felt terrible so I didn't make a fuss but thought I'd throw out a word of caution.

Love the glitter idea too! That will help the costume stand out better. To avoid glitter in the car just carry the costume to the event in a clean plastic garbage bag.

Using the black leotard/sweats you could also use the childs body as the straight part of the note, that way you would only need foam or armature covering for the top and bottom of the note making it a little less expensive. Then glitter the note and the part of the clothes that are "the note". Foam is going to be a little pricey I think, you may be able to get the real thin stuff at a good price, if that is right, you could "thread" wire (floral or similar) through it for stability. If you spray paint the foam make sure you get an acrylic based paint and TEST it b/c some will melt the foam. The other thing that just off the top of my head is you may check out lowes store for some wire product that is shapable but holds it's shape (rebounds like the car shade things) for the shaped area and glue to the edges of the fabric, or the foam summer swimming pool noodle things.

I would sew it in though since it would take me longer to iron it in (I rarely iron and am hopelessly slow at it).
