So happy for you that it went well with the midwives. I had my kids in a smaller town too, and I know how hard it is when you don't have a lot of choices. Are the midwives working within the hospital then? They have access to the epidurals? They didn't have midwives in our hospital. If you had a midwife, you basically were going to be signing up for a home birth. I like the idea of midwives in hospitals, but don't understand how they fit in with the doctors yet. In that case though (going to the hospital for the birth) then I would understand that you would need a plan. I'm glad she's going to work with you. Easy to say, but don't worry about the other midwives that weren't so understanding and helpful. Can you request this one on future visits? I was a doula for many years, and one of the things that I always believed when interviewing with one of my ladies was that this was THEIR birth and they needed to be comfortable with me, no exceptions. Sometimes you just don't have the same chemistry that you do with another. It sounds like you've found the right midwife for you.
