Hey i am up to corrections but so then i should just call them light blue? Which i thought is self blue which is another name for lav? God i wish i wrote down the sellers name when i bought her. I wish my computer was working so i could get some good pics of them to post up i sent pics to four different peeps

Blue and self blue are totally different. It sounds like you have BBS--Blue, Black, Splash

There are several different 'shades' of blue, just like there are different 'shades' of splash. This is one of bargain's pictures, it has 2 different 'shades' of blue orpington. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/8875_blueorphens.jpg

Blue comes lighter than that too. Here's a photo taken from http://www.roundcreekquarterhorses.com/chickens.html of a blue cochin hen. She is blue, not self blue. http://www.roundcreekquarterhorses.com/chickens/Blue cochin egg 300.JPG

Hi Shay sorry I havent posted yet to your question.. Yes light blue would be the direction to go.. now it doesnt mean they will always throw light blues they could throw dark blues and also blacks when bred together or to a black and could throw splash when bred together or to a splash.

Self-Blue is the "true" name for Lavender.. the reason why atleast in cochins is because self-blue is already in APA and ABA as a standerized color name and Lavender isnt.. from what I was told it is easier and less confusing when the color is referred in the same way in all breeds and is easier to get accepted. But you are correct Lavender is another name for Self-Blue...

But Self-Blue and Blue are NOT the same.. Self-Blue when bred together with only produce Self-Blue chicks.. regular Blue (in a wide aray of shades) when bred together will produce reg. blue (again in many shades), black, and splash. Self-Blue (Lavender) is one gene and Blue is a totally differant gene.

Hope this helps

Lav split would be black, so the chicks would fall under the b/b/s coloring. Bred to splash would produce 100% blue, bred to blue would produce 50/50 black and blue.

I've just posted an auction of Bantams and Silkies- the pens have only been separated for 2 weeks, so there's some possibility of mixed chicks. They're all excellent quality birds, so you should get some great stock.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=459458

I have a Blue Salmon roo over Salmon Fav hens; Blue & White roos over Blue, Splash and Partridge Silkie hens; Mille Fleur and Porcelain roos over Porcelain, Lavender and Mottled d'Uccle hens; and mixed Serama colors (incl. true Chocolate) with Frizzled, Smooth and Silkie birds. My hens 'visited' RevolutionMamas Cockerels, if you want to look at her past auctions for pics.

I'll have 12 eggs for the winner, and will double it for $6 additional shipping to cover the extra foam costs.
