Crazy story. What breed/gender has wandered into my life???????

I just have to disagree. That is a hen. What makes you say rooster. I sure don't see it. My friend and fellow chicken owner says hen also.

I say it's a hen, too. Nothing in that first pic looks like saddle feathers to me, just nice, fluffy, freshly bathed back feathers. In addition. NHs are one of the breeds in which hens have well developed wattles and comb, and the males have MONGO combs! My roo's comb was twice that size at that age.

Roo- sorry!

Nope, those don't look any different than the back feathers on most of my large breed hens. They're not pointed enough or long enough to call a "saddle;" and the bird looks about 5 - 6 mos. to me. By that age a roo should definitely have a well defined set of glossy, pointed hackle feathers and, in NHs, the front of the comb should be much more rounded forward and prominent.

check out this hen:

and this roo; note the shape of the comb:

That roo is older than this bird, of course, but the forward prominence is obvious early on in NHs. I'm sticking with my original assessment - it's a nice looking NH pullet.
