Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Thanks. Directly below her wing and the fluffy part from there back is lightly barred. Does this mean that I can't count on obviously sexable chicks? I guess I mean her phenotype is barring that is difficult to discern; does that indicate a genotypic trait too where what she passes down an indistinct barring?

She will pass on the barring gene to her sons if crossed with BCM. The chicks will be Black Sexlink and obvious, males with a white head splotch females with black heads.

Ok, so she was definitely from pure parents--a side project on the part of the breeder who I have dealt with for some time and has good standards. She says the girl must be Brahma cross too. Next question: in my olive egger project, will her barring from the CL genetics carry through to create sex links with FBCMs? What about crossed with pure CLs? FYI: All the eggs hatched from this project that produced her were sex linked at hatch. Wishing I could tag Nicalandia on this one!

She's very pretty.

I have a follow up question. Since she and her clutchmates were sexable at hatch, I am assuming that she was from a Light or Dark Brahma hen (silver based female) instead of a Buff. Do you know what color was her mother was? Hmmm, I guess there is also the possibility of her being from one of the many designer project colored Brahmas out there, too. So more info and a picture of the Brahma mama would be great if you've got them!

Any one have chick or chicken pictures of CL sire X Isbar dam?

From what I can determine 100% Barred offspring and 50% of those would be blue barred. Anyone try it? Any white head blotches to designate males. How do the chickens look??
so, I come back and answer my own question......

Here are an Ice Cream Bar male and female:

This little guy is really pretty IMO -- not the best picture---he isn't one for holding still -- In theory he got zero barring genes from his Isbar mother -- although sometimes I think that there is some barring going on in Blue Isbars....and 1 barring gene from his Cream Legbar Father.

This barely noticeable crest is the result of one cresting gene....it is very sparse but very definitely a little crest.

Not flattering of her -- because she wasn't standing still either....- she definitely got a barring gene from her father

barring on the female's neck

Her crest.... the result of one cresting gene.

So - just what you would expect..... isn't it. :O)

you are correct, this male only show ONE single barring gene and its from CL side...! you can clearly see that on his Tail feathers and lack of barring on his Breast and basically all of the blue side he is lacking barring

this is how pure Barring ER/ER(Isbars are based on ER) look like..

Nice photos of barred - do you know what those chickens actually are? Are they CL X Isbar? -- do you know the entire genetic sequence for Isbar (a bit off topic for CL hybrid thread....but it is something I haven't seen anyone with the knowledge of.) Thanks! Are the above autosexing by headspot?

Best Christmas present! Went to the barn this morning and found my first egg from my Wheaten Sulmtaler x Legbar. It has the typical Sulmtaler eggs shape of long and narrow. The color has a very nice blue-ish tint, not much of an olive coloring. The Sulmtaler egg is tint to light cream. The roosters are huge and grew out twice as fast as the Sulmtalers which is a bonus since Sulmtalers are a delicacy meat breed. They have the Sulmtaler skin color and ear color too. The Sulmtalers are also a crested breed so they all have extra nice crests. The hens have the "S" shape wickle comb like the Sulmtaler hens do. I am absolutely thrilled with this cross. I get the amazing meat, fast growth, fantasitc free rangers, and a blue egg too! To learn more about Sulmtalers visit our club website at the link listed in my signature.
