Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Very nice pics. I really like the Barnevelder X. The one I have is darker so I think yours got the blue gene and mine didn't unless there is some other factor in play. I will try to post a pic soon but I am envious of those beautiful blue feathers that are coming out. As for the Brahma X, it is very similar to the one my friend is growing(except the crest)and if I recall from the pics you posted of her at a day or so old, she looked almost exactly like this one in the middle left: . Now the middle left one grown up to look like this:
Yes they were chick twins! I wish mine got a crest but she is still gorgeous IMO. The Barnevelder X almost shimmers in the light

Do you have day old pics of the pullet and the cockerel?

I found an older pic, from the six chicks in this picture, three are 4 days old and three are eleven days old. Cockerel #1 grew out to look like a normal legbar, cockerel #2 is the barred one in my earlier post, and cockerel #3 I'll have to look for him. Pullet #4 is the all black with the crest from my earlier post, the pullet that looks like a darker legbar from my earlier post is either #5 or #6 at 4 days old.
400

Because they each got one blue egg gene and one brown egg gene they will only pass the blue egg gene on to future offspring 50% of the time. So if you cross them to a brown egg laying hen the roughly half the offspring will lay green eggs and half will lay brown eggs.
Thanks, I figured that was the case but wasn't sure if there was something going on that I might be missing.

#2 looks exactly like the Australorp x Mama Bay is raising when it was that old. You can search the thread for Mama Bay and you will find those pics somewhere between April 6th and 20th. But again who knows the barred rock x may look the same. If someone has a pic of a 2 weeks old Barred Rock x Legbar, kindly post.

I hatched out a dozen CL X SLW chicks about a month ago and have 7 males from that hatch. My question is a basic egg color inheritance question. If these males are mated to brown egg laying hens what are the egg color options? The blue egg shell color is dominant, correct? Will all of the resulting offspring lay green eggs?

Couple of pics of the males:

Just wanted to add to this:

If you cross these hybrids with a blue egg laying hen like a Legbar which is supposed to be homozygous for blue gene, all the offsprings will lay green to olive eggs. 50% will have two blue genes but will still get the brown color genes (there are at least a dozen), whereas 50% will have 1 blue and 1 white gene but still brown genes superimposed. Shades of the eggs will vary depending on the interactions of those brown genes.

Thanks Junibutt (I always smile when I see your screen name because that is one of our nicknames for our dog June). I do plan on crossing one of these cockerels back to a legbar hen. This is good information to have. I had an idea that some might be blue and some might be green but this clears it up for me. I really need to do a genetics primer course or something!

I forgot who it was, but there was someone who said they would love a pea combed legbar instead of the single/rose combed versions. I have a pullet that came out of a pure legbar rooster and a legbar x autosexing EE so she is 3/4 legbar, 1/4 autosexing EE. She has a small pea comb, is autosexing, no beard/muff, and is non-crested. Not sure if I want to keep her or sell her on, would be an extra side project.

I would love to have something like that! Is she vaccinated? I lost all my EE/Legbar pullet to Marek's last month.

Not taking anymore chances.
