You may need to trim his vent feathers . Orpingtons are fluffy causing fertility problems sometimes .

I actually did just do this last week so that definitely could have been the problem. I took the scissors to both Roos and all the hens so hopefully that was the problem.

If I crossed a golden cuckoo maran with a cream legbar what color egg would they lay and should they be creasted? the golden cuckoo maran I have look just like a legbar but without the creast. is it possible to have a legbar that does not have a crest?

They should lay green eggs. If the Marans is from a dark egg line, the green will be darker. Yes it is possible to have a Legbar that doesn't have a crest, but it's not desired and many people wouldn't use them for breeding. But if you are making a mix it doesn't matter, but the chicks won't have a crest if the parent doesn't have a crest.

Yes, the difference should be clear. I have both and can easily tell them apart. Post some pics on the cream legbar thread if you want some input. Legbars can be without a crest. I have a line of small crested legbar males and sometimes I get some that are without a crest.

If you cross your legbars with your gcm you will get most likely get some that are crested and some that are not. It also matters how large the crests are in your legbars. The smaller the crest the less likely they will pass them on when mixed with a non crested breed of chicken.
