Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Sally i cant remember who (my memory can be terrible) one of our CL breeders swears by taking the roo out for two weeks and collecting eggs while hes gone. She gets all female dominated hatches all the time. Or take the hens to a calm quiet place without a roo.
Quote: interesting! Perhaps they just need a spa day he he he

I was looking at the empty egg shells and there was a few of my CL x Barred Cochin that was bred back to my roos. I think these might be them. The ones that look similar to yours.

Also, How is gender determined for chickens, If I keep getting so many male chicks should I replace my existing roosters, the hens are not going anywhere but I do have more different lines growing out. This is frustrating!
The Gender of the chick is set as soon as the hens ova is made--before the pullet even hatches! The Male has nothing to do with it and there is no way to change gender--like heat, fermented feed and etc. The egg is what it is going to be from the very beginning. It just depends on what the hen lays.

Explanation here from my pet chicken:

A: If you want to know how to tell the difference between males and females in chickens, please see our related questions, below. This question addresses how sex is determined in chickens genetically.

In birds, the sex of the embryo is determined by the egg, not the sperm (as it is in humans). Avian sex differentiation is not determined by XY chromosomes like it is in humans and most mammals (or even the XO system used by some insects). In those systems the sex is determined by the sperm, by what the male contributes to the offspring. By contrast, birds have a ZW system of sex determination (shared with butterflies, moths, fish and reptiles). In that system, sex is determined by the female within her ova, and the sex of offspring is not affected at all by the sperm which the male contributes.

she sent me what she thinks is a hen, do BR have this orange faces/legs young?

The darker barring for BRs is for pullets. The legs should be yellow orange. The face color I do not know about though

She is very nice looking!

so I am still confused as to what to go with on these chicks I hatched!

the small dot and the dark legs, female?
and the large dots are male? I just noticed since they are dry now that some of the black with large dots do have a faint chipmunk pattern??? now I am thoroughly confused!!
not that thats hard to do!! can I try feather sexing them or not?
