Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

So its been 30 years since I processed a chicken. Lived on a farm once upon a time. How do they taste at those ages? We are raising out about 20 cross roosters for meat currently and thought I had to kill them sooner so they were not to roostery. I really have no idea what to expect yet.

I crossed my CCL hen with a barred frizzled crested OE roo. I got about half pure white chicks and half orange/gray barred chicks. They are all grown up now and just started laying big light olive green eggs :)

here is my favorite hen. She has a wicked beard and crest!

here is one that got no beard or crest:

and here is one of the white hens all grown up:

They all lay a pretty similar color of light olive green egg. Here are a few next to their mom's CCL egg on the far left (2 weeks in to laying and their eggs are already bigger than hers!)

I am a fan of the first!

Go to the processing support thread. It is very helpful there.

I processed two 12 week old Cream Legbar X Crele Pene cockerels yesterday. They are not big but I did weigh one of them. He was 2# 67oz. Not bad for the age and breed.

They are marinating and will be BBQd today. I will process them over the next two weekends. I have 4 more.

Sounds so yummy. I havent had any BBQ chicken in so long. Now I figure I am going to be eating a lot of it soon though. YUMMMMMYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So,here's a question. Is there a way to fatten up our males? I'm obviously going to always have extra males, since we're hatching. And I'm wondering if I feed them separate of the females, can I get some extra weight on them? And everyone is processing around 5 months?
