Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

…and you have the pictures to prove it…ouch...
I do :(

Its not pretty when it happens and I feel just awful. This summer I vented one of the coops better to see if it helps and I still have a few modifications I need to make to another 2 coops as well so I really hope it helps.

My CCL girl is 3.5 weeks old. Of the many eggs I set, so many are looking like cockerels that it is a relief that this girl is in the mix. I'm not sure whether her partner will be an Ameraucana or a Copper Marans or a Welsummer or a Brahma.

I can appreciate the challenge. I live in a very mild climate, but we have fog and other chilly conditions that cause roosters in certain coops to get purple tips on their combs (some are CL, others are not). There are a variety of factors, and each coop needs it's own modification…not that I've figured it out in all cases...

That would be a long project. Not sure if you know but lavender dilutes red as well so you could make a lavender laced tan bird with rose comb. Lavender is recessive so you'd breed in lavender then breed offspring together and just hope that the lavender based birds have the rose comb/crest and still lay colored eggs. The pattern wouldn't show in those offspring so you'd have to take the best lavender bird with the traits you want and breed back to the laced bird, then breed those offspring together and hope the right traits match up. Something else would be leg color since white skin is dominant.
Well, here she is. I liked the idea of the black being replaced with Lavender and I really don't like messing with the "blue" gene (I like the blues and splashes but not the black ones so much). Maybe I should be happy that she's laced, has a rose comb, crest, and hopefully lay a green egg. That being said, if I don't breed her to a Lavender Orpington what would make the best father to get chicks more like this...a Cream Legbar or a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte? I probably will try the Lavender Orpington first just to see what the Lavender Laced "Tan" would look like. Maybe the tan won't be too light for my liking. Then I can just line breed until I get some birds with all the traits that I want as well as two copies of the blue egg gene (hopefully she has at least one).

I'd breed her back to the wyandotte for better lacing and comb. Some of the offspring should still have the crest and blue egg gene as well. Here is a bird from AUS that is a gols laced with lavender- you can see how it dilutes everything.

How old is this hen? She is cute!

I posted a chick pic of this lady before. She is from a legbar rooster bred to a red ranger hen. You can see a hint of barring on her. She will be bred to my legbar x autosexing EE male to bring size up in that line.
