No worries at all. That's actually why I was thinking it might be an interesting pairing, to improve barring, since there would be less to breed out, in subsequent generations, to get back to a Legbar lol.

You will lose the blue egg which is one of the main reason to have legbars.

Yes. They are both the result of Legbar roo over rose-combed Dominique hen. The little guy is how we found out one of our Dominique hens is heterozygous for rose comb.

Progenitor breeds for cream legbars are a little barred rock and a lot of leghorn ( plus 'chilean hen, whoever she was). You could better get away with outcrossing to a golden crele leghorn, but you would definitely have to watch out for loosing crests, plus egg color would be diluted with only one blue gene. Cream can be worked back in easily enough with such a cross. Breed back can fix as long as you watch your babies and cull heavily.

Assuming my barred cockerel has one blue gene, and I breed back to a homozygous blue Legbar hen, I would likely end up with some olive eggers homozygous for blue, right? And I could select for duckwing (e+) vs. Extended black (E). It might require some patience, but would be easy enough to spot, since it's recessive. The part that is the biggest mystery, and I can't find any clear research to point me in the right direction, is on the genes controlling the brown overlay. So, I don't know how many generations it would take to eventually get pullets with true blue vs olive. Seems like it could be a fun project with interesting egg colors along the way and shed light on how to breed out brown.

Oh don't be a stick in the mud ralphie! It's possible it will work, as long as they cull heavily, take detailed notes, and introduce very slowly. I'd just recommend using a type of barred leghorn, and gold crele or crele leghorn is going to be the closest and easiest to outcross. Or they can look for a legbar breeder who doesn't have muddled barring.........

That reminds me, I really have to post on this thread my five keeper cockerels for this year. Nearly all definitely related to Fabio, with some Mr Blue showing through... I wanna give them all fancy long haired male model names, lol. I've gotten far on crest versus comb balance on cocks. If only Montana didn't get so cold, their combs would survive their first winter

I think you should ask JerryS. He is the resident genius on egg colors he said as best I recall “ once the brown goes In the blue is gone forever.

That’s why they use white egg breeds whe adjusting legbars .. i.e rose comb legbars.
